Emanuel Lasker was chess champion of the world from 1894-1921. He was
born in Germany Dec.24,1868 & died in NYC on Jan.13,1941. I'm
concerned about his wife,Martha (Bamberger)(Kohn)Lasker. She was born
Nov.,1867. I have no idea when she died or where. One online source
lists her as dying in 1939. Lasker's biography says she outlived him.
I need her date,yr of her birth & death.

Hallo Bluestream,

Martha Lasker was born on November 19, 1867 in Berlin, according to an
email from the Lasker Society. She couldn't tell me her date of death
yet, but she'll get back to me on that one.

Gwagner,
Did that Lasker society ever get back to you with the info on
the death of his wife, Martha? Do you think that a second email would
serve any purpose. If they have a phone number or email address, I'll
gladly contact them if you want me to. After all your hard research,
I'd like to put this one to bed & rate & tip you. Advise. Bluestreak

I've gotten a short second note saying that she has contacted several
people and will let me know once they get back to her. I'll pass it
along as soon as I know more. Their webpage is

Hi Bluestreak,

I couldn't yet find her exact date of her death, but the year 1939 you
were citing from an online source is definitely incorrect. She was on
his bedside when he died in 1941. Here is how she describes these last
couple days on her husband's side [in German]: "Am folgenden Tag
13. Januar 1941: An
verloren..." (http://www.koenig-plauen.de/Rubriken/Weltmeister/lasker.htm)

I'll let you know in case I find out more.

Thank you, gwagner. His biography also describes her as being lovingly
at his bedside when he passed. For some reason, I suspect she lived
out her days quietly in old New York City. There is a Martha Lasker
listed in the SS death index as dying on Aug.15,1972. Her date of
birth is listed as Dec.22,1882. That person's SS# is 109-36-6052.
While that entry is very tempting, I'm hesitant for this reason. In
Lasker's biography, the details of Martha's life involve her getting
married very early, like the 1880's. So I'm being a little careful.
I'm not committed to anything right now. If you can come up with
anything good, I'd be very interested in taking a look at it. Thank
you gwagner for your progress so far. In the next day or so, I will
try to dig his bio out of my closet to give you more exact info of
Martha's early marriage. Bluestreak

Hi Bluestreak,

the Martha Lasker you were citing is not her. She was indeed born in
1967, which is confirmed by the same source I've cited above
(http://www.koenig-plauen.de/Rubriken/Weltmeister/lasker.htm). It
lists their wedding year as 1911.
I've contacted the Lasker Society
(http://www.lasker-gesellschaft.de/). I'll get back to you in case
they know more about it.

Hi gwagner,
Martha Bamberger was born in Nov.,1967. She used the pen-name
Martha Marco, when submitting lieterary pieces for publication. In
1886, she married a man named Emil Kohn, and stayed with him until he
died in 1910. He had been proprietor of a well-know piano factory. He
took ill soon after. She married Lasker in July,1911. She remained
loyal with him until he died in NYC on Jan.13,1941. Thank you for
your progress, gwagner. Bluestreak
