I'd like some information about how in the cable and radio industry many content providers buy distribution rights for their content (e.g. buy the right to serve their own content in other's channels). Specifically, I'd like some good articles explaining this industry. I'd also like to know if there are other industries where this was tried and it didn't work. | |

Please give some examples of what you mean by content. Ie you record a minute or two of a local news cast. On the same tape you record the things you plan to distribute to other radio stations etc. You mail the tape with your check for $5.18 payable to the station that first aired the local news item. If they cash your check, you can sort of assume they thought the payment was Ok, and you have permission to proceed in the manner you suggested in your cover letter. If they don't cash the check or respond some other way, your options are to try again, attention someone else at the station, forget the whole thing or try to contact them by email or telephone or take a chance that they will sue you for stealing their content. If the content is worth thousands of dollars, I presume obtaining a detailed authorization is prudent. Neil |
