I am looking for an onscreen copy of a paper called "Demography and
the Long-Run Predictability of the Stock Market", by Geanakopolos,
Magill and Quinzii. The address I have is :
http://papers.ssrn.com/so13/papers.cfm?abstract_id=329840. This
address produces an error message. How can I access the paper.

Hello benthere-ga,

Sometimes there can be glitches when you try to access a URL that is
the result of a database search. The best way to get around this is
to go back to the screen where you can input search terms for the
article.

Go to: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/DisplayAbstractSearch.cfm
In the "author: last name" box type in Geanakoplos (Nb. there is no o
between the p and the l).
Click on "search"
You will be taken to a screen with links to papers by Geanakoplos. The
one you want is the third one down from the top.
Click on the title of the article.
You will be taken to a screen with the abstract. Scroll down and you
will come to a "download document" button. This will open the document
for you in pdf format (you will need to have Acrobat reader installed
- available from http://www.adobe.com/). It took quite a long time
for the document to load into Acrobat when I tried it.
Alternatively, the other button lets you request for the document to
be sent to you by email.

I hope this helps

Search strategy: I worked my way up the directory tree of the URL
provided in the question until I was able to access the abstract
search page.

Tehuti,

http://papers.ssrn.com/so13displayAbstractSearch.cfm. Over several tries,
I received only error messages. I do not know what to do next. Please
advise.----Benthere

As I write this clarification, I am going through the process of
accessing this paper. I will outline the steps below. Please tell me
at which step you experience the problem. Please note, I am going
abroad tomorrow (Dec 12) and will not return until Dec 21. I will not
have Internet access while I am away. If what I say does not work,
please be aware that I cannot respond before December 21.

I put the URL http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/DisplayAbstractSearch.cfm
into my browser

This takes me to the SSRN Abstracts search

A search box appears. The input points are: keywords, authors first
name, authors last name.

Into the authors last name box (the third box down), I input
Geanakoplos

The results section gives me a list of papers by Geanakoplos, and the
one you want is the third one down.

Alternatively, try putting Magill into the authors last name box. The
paper you want is the second one down.

Actually, I did get an error message the first time I searched on
Geanakoplos. I think the site is a bit flaky, and you might need to
try more than once.
