good morning! I have a Motorola cell phone P7389 with a SIM card in it for Singapore -- I would like to place a call to the United States with that phone -- what do I have to dial to do that? (From my hotel, I dial 9 008 1 and then the number in the US -- but that does not seem to work on the cell phone...) thanks! |

The phone itself is a tri-band GSM unit which will work under any of the 3 (or two) GSM networks out there. The key however with the carriers is to ensure you are provisioned with international calling. This is turned off by default by many carriers to prevent accidental charges or fraudulant use. As for dialing '9' first, I'm not sure how it works in Singapore, but in the US that is typically used to dial 'out' of a phone system such as at a hotel. Greg |

Streamwood's right - the '9' you dial connects you to an 'out'-line. This isn't necessary for a cellular phone. You can't make an overseas call from your cellphone if you haven't signed up for an auto-roaming service. You might be able to find out more from these websites - check your SIM card to find out which service provider you're using (SingTel, M1 or StarHub) SingTel: http://home.singtel.com/consumer/products/international_calling/default.asp M1: http://www.m1.com.sg/M1/CDA/Generic_Sections/User_Guide/User_Guide_Details/1,1044,6010,00.html?v_image=6008&v_pageNumber=1 StarHub: http://www.starhub.com.sg/intlcall/intlcall_idd008.html |
