I'm looking for the artist, album, and title of a song from within the
last... 5 years, or so. It's sung by a woman. Below are the few
lyrics I recall, and they may not be correct.

0) Starts with "do do do" over and over.
1) "I was sitting by the window / when the man behind the counter"
2) "hiking up her skirt"
3) something about coffee

Hi thecabinet and thank you for the question.

The song you are looking for is Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega. The
lyrics go like this

"I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner
I am waiting
At the counter
For the man
To pour the coffee"

For the full lyrics go to:

The song was released on the album "Solitude Standing" and you can buy
it at the link below:

Actually, the version you heard might be a remix by "DNA featuring
Suzanne Vega". It appears on "Tom's Album", released in 1991. It
went to the top 5 on the Billboard charts(!).

One reason you might have heard it more recently is that it also
appeared in a 1998 "Best of Suzanne Vega" album called "Tried & True,"
which is an import for the U.S.

I don't know which version you heard, the original or the remix, but
both will get airplay once in a while.

If you are an "I Dream of Jeannie" fan, there is also a mix called "Jeannie's Diner"

Thanks for the info Scott. I'll have to see if I can track down the
various version *cough*Kazaa*cough* and figure out which one I'm
looking for.

And I have to say, it's stuff like this where GA really shines. I've
looked several times for this song, but based on my memories I was
never going to find it.

Thank you for the nice words, excellent rating, and generous bonus!

If you go to the Amazon site, you can listen to a sample and decide if
itīs the one you are looking for or not. Click on the link below and
