I've lost winword.exe and now cannot download anything from word. I've
reinstalled Office but to no avail

..How did winword.exe get lost? Accidental deletion, virus payload,
malicious intent by someone else?

(Are you sure that's the only thing wrong with the system?)

Have you tried REMOVING office first? see if you UNINSTALL office and
then DELETE the office directory, so that there is no trace. Then try
reinstalling. Let us know if you are still having problems.

You can also try copying the file from another computer that has the
same MS Office version that you have. If you choose to do so, just
remember the folder where you got the file and copy it to the folder
in your computer.

Think it was an accidental deletion=trying to clean out garbage and
sqeeze some mor out of old computor with a illiterate person at the
keyboard- going to try reinstalling office again.
