In 'Sanonda'-a Bengali magazine- there was a news about website being
opened for Bengali TV serial updates. This information was published in
an issue between May,2002 and July or August,2002.How do I find this
website? It was just an information, not the details they print on
webpages on every issue of their magazine.By the way,Sanonda is
published at Kolkata or Calcutta,India.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your question. I am sure you are talking about
Sananda (A Bengali Women's Magazine) and not 'Sanonda' (If you are
still sure please clarify). However this magazine does not have an
online edition and this makes the job of finding your information all
the more tougher. I have already requested my cousins (they are
Bengali and live near Calcutta) if they could help us on this. I will
keep you posted. For your information, Sananda is published by the
Anandabazar Group who are well known for their other publications (you
might strike gold if you look up the archives of these papers for what
you want):

->Anandabazar Patrika ( Daily Bengali News)
http://www.anandabazar.com/

->The Telegraph ( Daily English News )

Thank you once again,

Warmest Regards,
Shiv Reddy

Hi Shiv Reddy,
Thank you so very much for such a quick response to my
enquiry! This is actually my second clarification today to your
question. This question-answer system is very new to me.It was my very
first aproach/question broadcasted this way.So maybe I didn't figure
out where to place the'postscript'.You may already be in receipt of my
clarification from this afternoon. It's just that when I was checking
just now,I found there was a comment to the effect of'There was no
answer found this time'just under your question to me and I found my
answer to your question sitting way below.
In case you did not find my answer before I'll repeat it
here.
You are right! It is Sananda, not Sanonda. The way we Bengalis
pronounce this word is with the sound of'O',not'A'.Thus the
mistake.Silly of me!For your cousins'convenience I'll give you a
little pointer. If I were in Calcutta right now and if I could not find
any help from the office of 'Sananda', I'd do the following.I'll go to
a magazine seller who carries old magazines and browse through the
Sananda magazines that date between May and August of the current
year.I do not know about places outside Calcutta. But in Calcutta,
there are quite a few sellers of old magazines in many street corners
sitting with their wares on sidewalks. The issue in question has the
information among the first few pages. It would be found at the top of
a page on the left side.Sananda, for sometime now,has started
publishing detailed informations on web pages of various topics,a
different one in each issue. That's not what I'm talking about. It was
just an information - that a website has been created for the fans of
the Bengali serials shown on Alpha Bangla TV and ETV Bangla.I'm a
recent net-brwser.I wasn't that when I had first come across the
information.I had tried the web site they had quoted. It did not
work.Naturally, because it was not a complete one.As far as I remember
it did not have www. or http;// before the words.Had I not been such a
stranger to the web world at that time,I could have tried different
combinations and probably be able to click on the right web site
then.Thank you very much Shiv and please thank your cousins for me.
Please let me convey my best regards to you.

sananda, sanonda - it's a question of pronunciation (spoken language)
taking over writing. actually, the Roman alphabet does not suffice for
many languages because of the phonetics that are not available in
English/Latin-born languages. You know about this for Tamil, for
example, where 'zh' is used for a phonetic. the actual sound is
aerated, semi-palatal and not at all like 'zh', which when pronounced
in English.

this guy is writing out in English just as he speaks... so, sanonda is
actually sananda...

Hi!
Thank you for your prompt action. You are right. The word should have
been spelled as Sananda, not Sanonda. It was an oversight on my part. The
reason being it's pronounced as 'o'.Pronunciation like that always
brings to my mind the sound of 'o'.I guess that's why this silly
mistake came to be.Let me harp on it a little bit more.If I was in
Calcutta right now and if I could not get any help from Sananda,I
would have taken the following path:
I would have gone to old magazine sellers (they can be seen on many
street corners selling old magazines on the sidewalks)and browsed
through all the old Sanandas they have dating between May and August
of this year.I can clearly visualize the page the news was
on.Net-browsing is a recent adventure for me,it was not then.When I
had access to that issue first,I tried the site they had quoted, with
no result at all.I now know it was incomplete because now I remember
there was no www. or http:// before those words. My friend from another
country has borrowed a few Sanandas from me with that issue among
them.I have no way of getting in touch with her.Hence this approach
through Google. That particular news,if I'm not wrong in
remembering, was among the first few pages on the left side(at the
top).I do hope this little additional tidbit will help your cousins in
their search for that particular issue of Sananda.Sananda prints
details about web pages on different topics in all their issues. That's
not the kind of page I'm talking about,it was just one of many
informations they often print.I got immensely interested in the
Bengali serials they show on Alpha Bangla TV or ETV while I was in
Calcutta and started missing them when I had to leave
Calcutta.Naturally I got so excited to learn from Sananda that a
website has been created for Bengali serial lovers across the
world.Thank you very much and please thank your cousins, too.
