I'm trying to find a website that allows me to enter a "military
speciality" code such as "AME8335" and tell me what that code is for.

I really would like to know the site that can tell me what the code
means. Not just the meaning of it.

Dear kitch8-ga;

I am happy to be able to answer your interesting question.

The code "AME 8335" is a skill identifier or a “rating” used by the US
Navy. It is indicative of the prerequisite skill and knowledge
requirements for a particular military occupational specialty (MOS).
In this case, the acronym “AM” denotes an Aviation Structural
Mechanic. The “E” indicates that this particular responsibility
involves working on safety equipment. The “8335”, in this code, refers
to the level of proficiency required to perform the tasks that such a
technician would be responsible for. To help you better understand the
methodology behind these acronyms, there are a number of different
“AM’s”; and “AMH” for example works on Hydraulics, and one who works
on structures would be called an “AMS”. Each of these would also have
their own numerical value indicating the proficiency requirements. You
can often tell an enlisted sailor’s rating by his enlisted rating
insignia badge

You can access the Adobe documents I have provided for you and find
information on many more specialties in the Navy, what each of their
prerequisites are and the codes by which they are commonly known.

I hope you find that that my research exceeds your expectations. If
you have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. I welcome your rating and your
final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the
near future. Thank you for using Google Answers.

Best regards;
