I am looking for a "bomb" mold that is used in making ice creme
deserts. Can't seem to find anywhere that sells them.It is like a
globe that comes apart in the middle and then clamps shut when the two
halves are put together. Was used on a "Two Fat Ladies" cooking show.

Hello mipaz

I have found one British company selling these which sends goods
within the European Union. They are also stocked by a large British
store with a good reputation. Although they do not ship abroad
routinely, they do have an "export team" which will offer quotes for
sending things outside the UK.

Let me know if this is any use to you and I'll be happy to write up
all the information I have. If not, can you let us know roughly where
you are so we can keep on trying to find your 'bomb'?

Thanks - Leli

I've just called the second store I mentioned. Unfortunately these
items are currently out of stock. However, when they do get them back
in again, there should be no problem with sending one to North
America. (If that's where you are!)

More news!

I called the first company to see if they might possibly ship to the
US and they will - at a price. The spherical molds/moulds (1 litre
size) are in stock at £15. They charge £27.50 minimum to send goods by
courier to the US; this is for packages weighing less than half a kilo
(a little over one pound). Delivery time would be approximately 12-15
days.
The person I spoke to on the phone was very helpful, by the way.

So, please let me know if this would help and I'll be glad to write up
all the details.

Leli

Hello again

Cucina Direct has these in stock right now:

"Spherical Pudding Mould

Made in England by Silverwood, this clever spherical aluminium mould
makes perfectly round cakes, puddings and ice cream bombes – and
especially attractive steamed Christmas puddings. The filled mould
slots into the stand and is easy to lift with the integral handle.

If that link doesn't work, search with 'mould' (British spelling!)
from their home page:

This is a mail order only company. They seemed very helpful on the
phone when they explained the shipping arrangements I outlined
earlier. In fact, the lady I spoke to had an American accent. They
will send you a catalogue on request, as you will see on their
website. These are their contact details:

John Lewis, the well-established department store, with branches in
most big cities in the UK, generally stocks the exact same mould:

mould." 13 centimetres

I think you would find these moulds in specialist kitchenware shops
too so, if you are coming over and want to know of more stockists, you
could contact the manufacturer, Silverwood. (They do not sell to
individual retail customers.)

Alan Silverwood Ltd
Ledsam House
Ledsam Street
Birmingham

Tel: +44 (0)121 454 3571
Fax: +44 (0)121 454 6749
Email: silverbake@aol.com

They say: "Alan Silverwood Ltd is the UK's leading manufacturer of
silver and hard anodised domestic and catering bakeware."

Good luck with your cooking. I hope your perfectly round desserts are
a lot of fun for you and your lucky dinner guests.

If you need any further help with this or if the links are
troublesome, please 'request clarification' and I will do my best to
offer assistance.

Regards - Leli

Closest items I could find were half-sphere molds.
