I am doing a project on a revolutionary cancer drug of which I am not
able to discuss. I need to find out the total cost of cancer treatment
(all inclusive... hospital stay, food while at the hospital, drugs).
A lot of this information is apparently very hard to find online,
including pricing for chemotherapy. I have found an average price for
cancer patients, but I am looking for specifics to discuss in the
paper. It is not my research, whihc is why I am unable to discuss it.
I am simply looking for a "market" for the product. Therefore, I
need to see what the current cancer "market" is like. Thank you.

I have found general overviews of the cancer market. Would this do
just fine? Just let me know. :)

What do you mean my general overviews? How many figures does this
include and what kind of figures? Thank you!

Hi again. It's a good thing you asked since I was wondering if these
figueres and dates would be acceptable to you.

The figures I have are as follows:

1. The 2000 figures for the cancer therapeutic market in dollars.
2. Future estimates of the value of the cancer therapeutic market.
3. market share of the innovative therapies, cytotoxic drugs, hormonal
drugs, adjunctive interms of over-all cancer market
4. Markets presumable remained untapped & their percentages
5. Enumeration of market driversfor the cancer market
6. annual costs for cancer in the United States (1998 figures)
7. Ovarian cancer: number of estimated patients
8. Multiple myeloma: number of estimated patients
9. Short mention of the cancer market growth by 2010

I have found nothing specific on the chemotherapy market.

Would this be an acceptable answer? If you say yes I will now post the
figures in my answer. Just let me know. :)

Those figures seem helpful, but I really need information on the costs
to the hospital for hospital stays, the food, the drugs (which it
looks like you have). Do the figures go into, specifically, how many
people are using certain drug treatments and what the cost is per
dosage, etc? Thats what I need. And I really do need chemotherapy
costs, which I have talked to many doctors and they are very vague
about it. What it costs to the hospital for the complete package...
make sense?

Any luck on them, and I will gladly accept your comments as answers.

Not much luck on those so far. I will open this question to other
researchers who maybe able to find much better data for you. Thanks!
:)

Hosptial stay is no longer an issue. I have found the data I need. I
still need information on a general cancer market. I don't want to go
any further into which cancers, as I need a general figure... an
average. Specifics are acceptable, if a large number of them is
given. EASTERANGEL - I may be willing to accept your answer. TO ALL
- please reply ASAP. Thank you again!

I should think 1/2 trillion dollars per year for just the USA is
realistic if the new treatment is faster and better across the board.
More if you want to add in transportation directly attributable to
cancer, lost productivity of the cancer victums and screening costs
that determine ten million people don't have cancer each year, and non
persciption preventatives, most of which are ineffective. At any
moment 5 million living Americans are diagnosed with cancer times
$100,000 annual average spent by this group = 1/2 trillion dollars.
That's my guess and it doesn't include follow up screening of persons
in remission or medication they may take related to the treatment they
got or the cancer that may return. Neil

I need specific references to any figures for citing. This is not
what I am looking for, but thank you.

You may need to be more specific; or get data for various cancers.
There are so many different cancers, at different stages, and so many
different treatments for them that a generic number would be
impossible. Some hospitalizations are for surgery, or its
complications. Others are for the complications of treatments. Others
for dying. Most chemotherapy and radiation therapy are not done while
hospitalized.....
