A good friend was just "let go" from a biotech research job at the
University of Montana at Missoula.

My friend is 55-years old, B.S. degree, 30 years of lab experience,
makes $45,000 per year, numerous journal publications, and is now
worried about finding another position in science. Would prefer to
stay in the Pacific Northwest, but also willing to move.

A great answer would include 3-4 web sites with listings for
biotech/biology/immunology/science/academic positions.

All comments or leads greatly appreciated !

Hello nronronronro-ga,

What a wonderful friend you are to jump right in to help your friend!
Even if you expect it, even if you’ve been through it before, even if
your head knows that it makes sense, even if you’re sort of relieved –
no matter what the circumstances of an involuntary job termination –
you are bound to experience a wave of emotional reactions to your
loss. If your friend received any kind of termination package, I
highly recommend that he take advantage of all the services offered.
Even if he didn’t get an outplacement package, he should look for
support services to help him through the transition. I’ve included
some resources to help you think about the issues involved so you can
offer support.

Job postings and career sites abound on the Web so it’s difficult to
focus on just a few sites. In this case, I’ve included a short list of
Montana job resources followed by general biotech portals and job
boards. I offer these for orientation. Once your friend has had a
chance to catch his breath, he’ll probably have a lot more questions.

I hope these resources will get you started. I’m wishing you and your
friend a speedy transition and a successful job search.
