What are the average salaries/wages of professional soccer players in
the French 1st and 2nd divisions (i.e. top 2 divisions)? If possible,
could I have the average salaries as paid by each club-not essential
though.

Hello tridingo

Here's what I could find - not everything you asked for, I'm afraid.
If you would find it an acceptable answer, do let me know and I'll be
happy to write up all the details for you.

2001/02 average for Paris St. Germain players

2001/02 salaries for 16 Paris SG players with figures for most players
for 2003 and beyond

DIVISION 2

1998/99 figures for division 2 player's average salary

1997 average salary of professional footballer

Percentage increase in overall cost of players' salaries between 1997
and 2002

French) on payment of a moderate fee.

I meant to add that it is much harder to get information on Division
2, and some of what I've listed under the heading 'Division 2' is
actually information on overall averages for professional footballers
in France.

what you have come up with is great. That will do fine.

Thanks

Hello again

Thank-you for your question about salaries in French soccer.

DIVISION 1

For the 2001-2002 season the average salary of a Division 1 player was
30,490 euros per month.
The Paris St. Germain players had a monthly average salary of 53,000
euros.

You'll find lists of basic salaries for sixteen Paris SG players
ranging from 7000 to 167,000 euros on the same page. Some of them are
expecting healthy increases from season to season. The top salary went
to Okocha:

SALARIES FOR FRENCH FOOTBALLERS IN GENERAL

In 1997 the average salary was 110,000 per month, not including
bonuses.

"Mercredi 8 octobre 1997

Between the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons the salary burden for
clubs increased by 22 per cent. In the past five years, salaries have
gone up by 125 per cent.

This information from a careers information page is in francs and
undated, but it might be helpful for comparing salary differences
between divisions. It says professional footballers must receive a
minimum of 12,000 francs. Typically, though, a Division 2 player would
get between 20,000 and 40,000 francs, while a Division 1 player could
expect 50,000 to 100,000 per month. (The site as a whole was last
updated in May 2002.)

SALARIES FOR DIVISION 2

As I told you, this was harder, but here's what I could dig out.

In 1998-1999 Division 2 players earned on average between 20,000 and

In January 2001, referees got 1,463 Euros per match in Division 1 and
640 Euros in Division 2.
