I need to write a fundrasing letter. My 4 year old niece requires
open heart surgery, and we have begun a trust fund to assist with the
cost. I am looking for a sample letter to see how others have asked
for money and/or contributions for an individual child. any advice or
assistance on where to look will be greatly appreciated.

Dear dianetss-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

I admire you efforts to help your niece’s family to prepare for this
emotionally and financially challenging moment in their lives. Such a
charity fundraiser can be a daunting task under the best of
circumstances, and I second the advice that one site recommends:
“…start now, be determined, take small bites, and chew slowly”.

Included in my research are sample letters that can be modified to fit
your circumstances. Feel free to sift through them and find the best
ones for you. I do hope that you consider the many other options for
raising funds and I have also included references to these. Do not
dismiss the possibility that a letter to a wealthy philanthropist will
go ignored. Some well-to-do citizens need only be asked, but finding
them will depend largely upon where you are located and who you might
choose to contact. Fundraising events, donation jars, and direct
requests are also productive but take time to arrange. You may also
approach your local radio station to see if they can come out to one
of your events and broadcast live from you venue. This is also a good
method of getting the word out. Remember the concept that “it takes
money to make money”, so you may want to put some of your initial
donations back in order to pay for large newspaper ads requesting
assistance, which may in turn generate donations above and beyond the
cost of the ad itself.

In addition to these suggestions, be assertive. Many hospitals,
particularly toward the end of the year, will “forgive” or “write off”
certain portions of some patients’ medical bills as a charitable
contribution. This provides a tax break for the hospital so it is
often as good for them as it is for you. As the financial counselor
how you can apply for such a thing and you may be surprised at what
you hear. If you are told that this is not possible, don’t give up.
Ask the attending physicians the same question. Some doctors and
surgeons work for hospitals under contract and may need a charitable
write off of their own, independent of the hospital.

I assure you that my family and I will remember you in our prayers
this holiday season.

I hope you find that that my research exceeds your expectations. If
you have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. I welcome your rating and your
final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the
near future.

Best regards;
Tutuzdad-ga
