Do you know if he died there as well? Or was he living in another city at the time?

Yes, he was living there at the time of death. The notice would
probably be in the Phila. Inquirer as he had retired from Otis
Elevator as a Exec. VP (as far as I know). His DOB was Dec.26, 1861.
I believe he died on May 2nd.

Walter1 --

The obituary for Godfrey R. Rebmann appears in the May 2, 1947 New
York Times (with a dateline May 1). Copyright prohibits me from
reposting it in its entirety, but you can get a copy from any library
with Proquest Historical Newspapers (on-line) or microfilms of old NY
Times.

Rebmann, 85, was a retired VP and director of Otis Elevator. He died
in his home in Ardmore.

There are more details on him and his business background from this

The obituary notes that he was director of Northwestern Trust Co. and
the U.S. Metallic Packing Co. He was a member of both the Union
League and Racquet Club.

Also in the obituary are his survivors -- listed in the Google Answer
referenced above.

Walter1 --

I saw your note on the Philadelphia newspapers only after posting the
Answer. In doing prior research, I checked to see how far back the
Philadelphia newspapers had information on-line and they only go back
to about 1978.

I suspect that you're aware that there's been more than a small amount
of research done on the Rebmanns here on Google Answers.

When doing a Proquest search, you'll want to use either his full name
or just the last name, as "Godfrey Rebmann" will turn up nothing due
to the quirks of indexing.

Dateline: May 1

"Godfrey R. Rebmann, formerly vice president and a director of the
Otis Elevator Company, died last night"

If accurate, that would put date of death at April 30, 1947.
