** If possible this question is for hailstorm-ga or pinkfreud-ga ** Who is a more credible 'leader' and/or inspirer of faith - Mohammed (pbuh) or Jesus. From what I have read Jesus performs more miracles and 'acts of god' than Mohammed (pbuh) - which if comparing the two would put him streaks ahead. |

I am neither hailstorm-ga nor pinkfreud-ga :) but I think most researchers will agree with me on this one; what you're asking can (and has!) filled books upon books. Therefore, in order to answer it well, I respectfully suggest your question will require more time and effort than the average amount of time and effort associated with this price. On the other hand, it is also possible to answer very simply and say that each is the more credible and inspiring to his followers, and not sufficiently credible or inspiring to those who do not follow. Perhaps the real question centres more on what is the difference between the followers of these two individuals, and secondly what is the difference between those who follow either of them and those who do not follow at all. |

haram, I am honored to be singled out in your request. However, my answers on religion questions to date have had more to do with the theory of religion and existances of almighty beings rather than with the specifics of certain religious faiths, so I don't feel qualified to answer this question. I would say that from what I see on TV news reports and the like, the follows of Mohammed seem to be more zealous than those of Jesus, but this is just an overall observation that I do not have confidence in stating as fact, or even personal opinion. |

I agree with kriswrite-ga that this subject has and can fill books. Indeed it has filled libraries over the ages, and the debate continues. As a Christian I am likely prejudiced somewhat in my ability to be objective. However, I have studied not only my own faith from numerous theological perspectives, but read the Koran, taken a class taught by Jihan Sadat (the widow of Anwar Sadat, assassinated President of Egypt), a lovely and devout Muslim woman who taught us much about her faith, and read endlessly on the subject of world religions, delving into as much theology as my brain could stand. I've thought long and hard on the subject and, from a vantage point of half a century of seeking and study (admittedly a short time for such a subject), come up with one main conclusion that seems to me to set Christianity apart to stand alone and totally unique among religions. That conclusion is that Christianity is the only religion which claims that God, the Supreme Being, Yahweh, Allah, whatever you want to call him, came to earth Himself and lived among us in the form of one of his own creatures, namely the man Jesus. In Christian theology, Jesus is not merely a prophet or teacher or rabbi - he is God himself in human form, fully human and fully divine at the same time. This is the central teaching and great mystery of Christianity, which, because of this mystery, is unlike any other religion. Islam on the other hand, while it claims to worship the same God as Christians and Jews, and no doubt does, denies the divinity of Jesus, claiming him only as a human prophet, and placing Muhammed as a further prophet, superseding Jesus in both time and enlightenment. They see Islam as a culmination of the divine revelation that began with Judaism, continued with Christianity, and is now completed by the teachings of Muhammed. Therefore, the main difference between Jesus and Muhammed, in the eyes of their followers and according to the theologies of the world's great religions is that Jesus was human AND divine, God incarnate, while Muhammed, however great a leader and teacher, was still only human. Obviously, there are those who will not agree, nor see it that way, so this too is only a comment. But I'm glad the question has people thinking. :-) --Byrd |
