Hi,

I'd like to know what the top 20 searchengines and link pages are used
by people from Holland (the Dutch). I am both interested in local and
foreign sites, just as long as they are in the top 20.

Kind regards,

Hi,

A big Dutch computersite, WebWereld, just published an article about
searchengines in the Netherlands. It's titled "Google is unstoppable,
biggest of Holland".

The article (http://www.webwereld.nl/nieuws/10989.phtml) is about the
market shares of searchengines in Holland. Until 2002, the biggest
searchengine in The Netherlands was Ilse, http://www.ilse.nl. But now,
in the first months of 2002, Google has taken over. Google made an
enormous growth from 3% in 2000 to 43% of the search market nowadays.

The top 5 of searchengines in The Netherlands is as follows:

1 Google ://www.google.nl (43%)
2 Ilse http://www.ilse.nl (29%)
3 IxQuick http://www.ixquick.nl (5%)
4 Altavista http://www.altavista.nl (4%)
5 Lycos http://www.lycos.nl (3%)

Another Dutch searchengine, http://www.vindex.nl is so little used,
that's it's not even mentioned anymore.

However, I don't think this top 5 is 100% correct. It doesn't contain
the MSN.nl site, even though MSN is used a lot to search in Holland.

The conclusion of the market share investigation is that eventually,
there will be only two big searchengines used in The Netherlands.
Ilse.nl, for national related searches and Google.nl for worldwide
searches.

Now for the link pages. The far most popular startpage in Holland is
http://www.startpagina.nl, with more than one million unique visitors
every day. Startpagina.nl has subpages containing links about a
specific subject, like http://computer.pagina.nl and
http://hardware.pagina.nl. These *.pagina.nl pages are also visited by
millions of people everyday.

Besides the popular Startpagina.nl, there's Startkabel,
http://www.startkabel.nl, the second largest link page.

As you can see, it's impossible to create a top 20 of pages, since
Holland doesn't have so much searchengines and link pages that are
populair. However, there is a top 20 of most visited pages which also
contains a lot of other sites. Maybe you'll find it interesting to
have a look: http://www.multiscope.nl/persbericht-volledig.phtml?uniek=20011011172327.

Kind regards,
Frank

Note that The Netherlands is the entire country and Holland is only
two provinces within the Country, North Holland and South Holland,
which include the three largest cities, Rotterdam, The Hague, and
Amsterdam. I think it was assummed in answering your question that you
were talking about all of The Netherlands when you said "people from
Holland (Dutch)".
