Though you were not precise about proximity to Lausanne nor size of
apartment, what you are looking for sounds reasonable. I was able to
find a nice furnished 3 room flat near the Geneva old town (about 30
minutes drive from Lausanne) in 1999 for CHF2500. (If you consider
places up to Geneva, you might want to look on the north side of the
city, say Grand Sacconex, Versoix, etc.)
Note: in the US, 3 rooms means 3 bedrooms, but in Switzerland, this
means 3 rooms (eg. A living room, a dining room and a bedroom).
However, you will have to do some calling around to settle on your
choice. You have many options to select from and pursue:
RENTAL AGENCIES
I think that the best way to find short-term furnished housing is
still by agent or classified ads. (What you're requesting for $5 is
typically handled much better by an onsite agent anyway, as they have
listings and long-term relationships with many landlords and agences
immobilier). Because of the large international population in Geneva
and Lausanne, many agents do speak English or German, if you need. For
example,
* OK Logements is a rental agency in Lausanne specializing in short
term furnished rentals (one month or more)

available

* I used Madame Janine Haniph in Geneva. I'm not sure if she still
works in relocation. You can find her contact info on the Swiss white

CLASSIFIED ADS (ANNONCES)
If you speak French, popular papers in the region for classified ads
include
Tout Immo

Edicom ads, grouping the ads of several daily papers
http://www.zannones.ch/
The site currently lists 2 furnished places in the Lausanne area. You
would need to contact them to see if they will rent short term.

* (a third option in a top-floor 3room apartment in Chailly-Lausanne,

To view ads, select "Immobilier" in the left column of the homepage
and "A louer" in the main frame. You can select options in the form
that appears. For Region, select "Lausanne et environs". You can also
specify the number of rooms in "nbr pieces", the minumum and maximum
size of apartment in square meters, and the minimum and maximum price
in Swiss Francs (I'm not sure why they choose "Fr" for that
abbreviation). You can also type in keywords in "Mots cles" (this is
where I typed in "meuble" - furnished)
An international French language classified ads site is also a decent
source
http://www.zannonces.net/
To view ads, click Suisse on the homepage. Then choose Geneve or
Lausanne from the middle pull-down menu, and Immobilier from the third
pull down menu.
There is a listing for weekly rental (CHF300 per week) in an old farm
near Neuchatel (only counselled if you have a car) 25min from Bienne.
It is furnished with a kichen and central heating. It suits 3 à 6
people.

You might also consider looking at sites of local universities and
businesses.

Geneva)

is cheaper)

SPECIAL RATES AT HOTELS
If you haven't the time to contact these options, some hotels are
negotiable to special weekly and monthly rates. This can run you quite
high, so I would advise trying the 1 and 2 star hotels in Lausanne or
Geneva (if you have access to a car or don't mind taking the train)
Lausanne Tourism lists some Lausanne hotels with special offers

I stayed at the Movenpick in Geneva in 1999 for about a month and a
half for about CHF4000. There is a Movenpick Hotel in Lausanne right
on the lake in Ouchy at:
4, Avenue de Rhodanie,
Lausanne 6, Switzerland 1000
The Ibis chain is usually pretty affordable
IBIS Lausanne Crisier
4, Chemin de l'Esparcette
