Dear cyberpup:
The hippie movement had an incredible number of influences on our
culture. Here are a few:
ART: the art of the Haight-Ashbury. "Created at the height of the
Haight-Ashbury music scene in the late 1960s, the posters of High
Society: Psychedelic Rock Posters of Haight-Ashbury have become iconic
images of this memorable era in American culture."

MUSIC: "In 1967, The Beatles openly announced that they used
psychadelic drugs. Their appearance had radically changed to a more
"hippie"-like one. They used the influences of places like India in
their fashion, coupled with long, shaggy haircuts and old, dirty
clothes. The feeling of these hippies was one of love and peace. The
Beatles, with their new look, popularized the hippie movement
throughout the world."

LITERATURE:
"Beat, Hippie, Punk (cyber or otherwise), Radical Crazy Mutant...
every real advance in American writing is rooted in his work, or
graced by the spectral gray image of his presence, Buster Keaton in
banker's drag, dessicated junky prophet. Burroughs' writing is based
on oral 'routines', satiric or surreal monologues which later grow,
expand, implode and fold in on themselves to produce the finished
books". -- (in Semiotext(e) SF 14 , 1989).

POLITICS:
"Fueled by songs such as " Tin Soldiers" by America and "Revolution"
by the Beatles, American youth marched and protested across the
country against the Vietnam War. Their rallying cries were "Make love
not War" and "Ban the Bomb"; it was the first time in American history
that there was a vocal and active nationwide protest against not only
American foreign policy but also the government itself. These
protesters (who were known as "hippie's" or "flower children") were
seeking things such as peace, justice, civil rights for
African-Americans, equality for women and discontinuing the draft
policy."
