You asked for reviews of 2002-2003 Mercedes S600 cars versus the
Jaguar XJ6/XJR cars. (Note that there are no 2002 XJ6 Jaguars. I'm
assuming you were referring to the XJ8?) After conducting an extensive
online search, I was unable to find any head to head reviews pitting
these two cars directly against each other.

However, I have found a great feature on CarsDirect.com which allows
you to compare all aspects of any two makes and models against each
other objectively. These include performance, features, comfort, and
safety, using only what is standard on each model.

I was also able to compare the two models with the criteria you have
given with stand alone reviews of the two cars. I have used two
sources in this method, the Consumer Guide and CarsDirect.com. These
are the two best sources out of the few that I could find that has
identical or nearly identical review formats for both cars.

PERFORMANCE:

The XJR inches out about 8 more HP than the S600 standard, putting it
slightly ahead of it in terms of performance. The Consumer Guide Road
Test ratings tell the whole story (all numbers credits to Consumer
Guide magazine [ http://www.consumerguide.com ]:
