Hi jawga --
Goose hunting can be a great sport, but like any kind of hunting, its
not the kind of thing you just jump into. You really cant just go out
and buy a gun, find some land, and shoot some geese. It doesnt work
that way. Since you mention you are a novice, Ill walk you through
the overall process to becoming a goose hunter. Start these steps
today, and by next fall when Goose season rolls around, youll be
ready to join your first hunt!
FIRST GET ADVICE FROM LOCAL HUNTERS

List of hunting clubs in Georgia

Joining a hunting club will not only allow you to mingle with more
experienced hunters, it will also often give you access to shooting
ranges where you can practice your skill. This is extremely important!
Remember, there is no excuse for crippling animals. A clean shot is
the only humane way to kill a goose. If you have no experience
shooting a shotgun, then you have no business being out there aiming
at birds or any other living creature for that matter.
If there are no clubs listed above in your area, just check your local
phone book or find your closest hunting supply outfitter and go in and
talk to someone. They will certainly be able to point you to a club
nearby.

Hunting on private ponds will take a lot of networking and
trust-building on your part. People who want to hunt on private lands
build and maintain relationships landowners, either individually or
through local clubs. Private land owners are hesitant to allow novice
hunters to hunt their lands due to liability issues. Your best will be
to work the public hunting grounds until youve built up some skill
and reputation as an honest law-abiding hunter, then approach private
land owners and ask for permissions.
Best of luck in pursuing your hobby. As I said, if you start now and
work hard at perfecting your skill, you will be all set for next
years waterfowl season.
Thanks for your question
