I have decided to try and help a friend sell her classic car. She's
trying to get $4000 for it, and I'm trying to find out:

1) If this is a realistic goal
2) If it is, what approach I might take to try and make this happen

Background:
She has (unsuccessfully) had the car in the Seattle Auto Trader, but
their web site only lists cars 1983 and later, so I don't think it's
getting proper (national) exposure, though part of the reason may be
some unfortunate word choices and a rushed photographer.

What I've done so far:
I've taken 24 pictures (http://room101.com/chevelle) portraying the
car's condition, with close-ups of any rust or damage.

I've checked a few newsgroups, eBayMotors, and chevelles.com (an
enthusiast group called Team Chevelle) and noticed that the only
Chevelles that seem to be in demand are 2-doors that can be converted
into macho "muscle cars".

I haven't really been able to find any valuations for 4-door models,
though I'm beginning to realize that they are probably going to be
quite a bit lower than what a 2-door would command.

You should be able to get the value of you 1969 Chevelle from NADA's
clasic car section. There are several models of Chevelles for that
year (Chavelle, Chavelle 300 Deluxe, etc...). From the photos I could
not tell which one you have, but you should know. Here is the page:
http://www3.nadaguides.com/Values/ValueModel.asp?UserID=064BA4B686E&DID=37600&Type=DM&GCode=CC&wSec=2&wPg=1105&Com=0015&Year=1969

I used a Seattle area code to set the valuation price (Since you
mentioned the Seattle Auto Trader), but you can change the zip code
here: http://www3.nadaguides.com/Values/ZipCode.asp?UserID=064BA4B686E&DID=37600&wSec=2&wPg=1102
and proceed from there.

As for advertising your car...I found several dozen websites that
specialize in classic cars, but I think the best way would be to find
out what it's worth (using the NADA guide) and offer it up on Ebay.
Set the reserve for the minimum amount you are willing to part with
the car, and see if you can't do better than that.

I'm not a researcher, and I'm certain an official Google Researcher
could do a much better job, but there you go.

Good luck.

Of course...the CORRECT spelling is "Chevelle."

It had been a long day.
