Please respond to my clarification; do you want to know how
e-whiteboards (those that use dry-erase markers, and not chalk) work?

I may be completely wrong, but what came to mind while reading the
question is Blackboard, a computer program used by many learning
institutions, including my university.  It allows students to receive
course information, take quizzes, surveys, and tests provided by the
instructor, and communicate with classmates- all online from any
computer.  I think this may be the e-blackboard ebbi is referring to
since distance learning is also mentioned.
