I need to find someone who will do some part time website development
for our company website www.worldclubtravel.com and also coach me in
my own rudimentary web development / dreamweaver skills. We're a
small independent business travel agency based in London, UK and have
recently lost the lady who helped us set up & maintain our website.

We plan to make simple updates ourselves eg. updating news, special
offers, etc - and am currently on a basic dreamweaver course - but am
sure I will need a more experienced shoulder to call on now & again
for coaching help on the basics & also there will be more complex
bigger developments/site extensions that we need to do, but will be
beyond my abilities eg. integrating an email newsletter service,
linking through to other web services, etc. Will need to have
experience in a good mix of relatively simple web development skills -
but nothing too complex - it's a pretty simple site.

What we have in mind is a cheap, friendly, creative freelancer or
student or someone looking for a little bit of work on the side -
won't take very long - about 1-2 days per month - ideally based
in/around London, UK so that we could meet up to brainstorm/develop
ideas together in person - but I'm willing to give distance working a
try.

I don't really want to go through a recruitment agency for this - and
spend loads of money! I'd really like to put a little ad on the
internet - or on a suitable newsgroup - to get in touch with potential
applicants . . .

. . . but where?! That's my question. Where can I post my ad for
free - or for a small fee - so as to be likely to get noticed by
suitable people? Industry websites? Magazines? Uni/College
intranets? That kind of thing.

A job for Google Answers if ever I saw one! Thanks!!

Hi Steve

You can place an ad in the following newsgroups, for no charge:

uk.jobs.offered
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=uk.jobs.offered

An example of a recent posting for a web developer in this group can
be viewed here:

http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=6070607f.0212100248.743bed50%40posting.google.com

misc.jobs.offered
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=misc.jobs.offered

biz.marketplace.web-design
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=biz.marketplace.web-design

Other possible places to advertise:

Techfreelance.net
www.techfreelance.net

Here you can post your ad for free. The home page says the only costs
you incur are what you pay for the freelancer. This might well be a
distance working option.

elance
www.elance.com

You post your project, describing exactly what your requirements are,
and service providers bid on the project. I'd imagine, for your needs,
that you'd be able to acquire somebody's services quite cheaply. You
need to put a deposit of $25 down though, refundable when the project
is awarded.

Again, unless you get lucky, this'll fall into the distance working
category.

You could always try advertising in one of the free classifieds on the
web, but you won't necessarily reach your target audience:

www.adpost.co.uk/
www.nettrader.co.uk

Advertising on college intranets sounds like a great idea. Here's a
selection, based in London:

University of Westminster

http://www.wmin.ac.uk/careers/vacancies/admin/employer_form.asp

Post your job here (free of charge), and they'll put it on the
University intranet for you.

City University London

http://www.soi.city.ac.uk/liaison/newppguidelines/employers.html

This page gives relevant contact details for job postings.

Middlesex University

http://www.mdx.ac.uk/placement/staff.htm#comp

Again, this gives relevant contact details.

If you wish to try other colleges/universities, go to their site and
search for 'placement' or 'work experience'. You should then find the
relevant form/contact details.

I hope this helps you find someone who can help you.

If you need clarification, don't hesitate!

Best wishes

sim-ga
