Grandma --

Unless we know the precise date of the gift, we can't tell you what
its value was on that day.

However, checking the New York Times stock tables at the end of 1952
shows that E.I. du Pont de Nemours common stock traded in the range of
79 5/8 and 97 3/8 during the year. At year-end it closed at 96 1/2.
The stock paid a dividend of $3.55 that year.

Note that there were also two issues of du Pont preferred stock
trading at the end of 1952.

Search strategy:
stock lookup in NY Times
