How can I force my Win2000 IBM ThinkPad laptop to release its internet
connection and renew without rebooting? For example, when I take it on
and off the dock, it does not reconnect. In Win 98, I used to call
winipcfg from the run line. Anyt good shortcuts like that?

Hi trakkarclay-ga,

The Windows NT class of operating systems (of which Windows 2000 is a
member) actually has a graphical version of the 'winipcfg' command
that you mentioned. However, you need to download the Windows NT
IPConfig Utility.

"The tool identifies your IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway
for each of your network interfaces, including the interface for your
network adapter, your dial-up networking interface, and your PPTP
interface. It allows you to click a button to Release, Renew, Release
all, or Renew all when configuring an IP address."

For full download, installation, and usage instructions, please see
the Microsoft article explaining how to renew and release IP
addresses:

Hope that helps...if you have any problems understanding the
information above please feel free to post a clarification :)

Cheers!

You may also find the command line version useful. It's called
"ipconfig", and has some of the functionality of the graphical tool.
