Loretta Abbott was a NYC-based
dancer,teacher,choreographer,actress,singer. She performed in many
companies, performed in the following Broadway shows: Purlie,2
Gentlemen of Verona,Raisin'. She also had an act with Al Perryman. I
think her middle initial is A. and she was presumably born in the
'40's. Bluestreak

Thank you sparky4ca!
It's so good to hear from you. On several online databases, I've
found a Loretta A. Abbott, with a birth year of 1946, and a zip code
of 10027, NYC. This would jibe with her many credits around NYC area.
I believe this is her. I don't know how much help this is, but I'm
fairly sure it's her. Bluestreak

Bluestreak, I'm sorry, but I cannot find an answer as of yet. Since I
have to get some sleep and go to work, maybe Luciaphile can find this
one.

My results, in case they are of some assistance to other researchers:

Hi Bluestreak! You’ve posed another mystery for us.

“Ms. Abbott tours with her own solo program "Women of Color." She has
worked with the Avodah Dance Ensemble for seven years and helped
create "Let My People Go." She regularly guest teaches with Avodah.”
Don’t know if this is the same woman, but it sounds like it:
http://www.avodahdance.org/LABBOTT.HTML
kind of indicates that she is still alive.

“Loretta Abbott is a dancer, actress, singer, choreographer, and
teaching artist. She has been performing since the age of five. She
has performed on the stage, in movies,…”
http://www.artsconnection.org/artist_bios.html
Same kind of thing. Sounds like she is alive.

Based on: http://www.mmmm-music.com/GWHSOTA/dancearticles.htm as well
as http://www.luigijazz.com/testi.htm it would seem she danced with
the “Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater”

http://www2.blackside.com/immaw/newyorkactivities.htm
makes reference to a tap dancer Loretta Abbott who performed in 1999
at a school.

Family Fare
New York Times; New York; Jun 25, 1999; Laurel Graeber;
Has a reference to “and Loretta Abbott, a dancer” performing at the
Queens Borough Public Library in 1999.

As well, there are 2 other NYTimes references to her for 1999
performances.

The Social Security Death Index has a Loretta M Abbott, the only one
recent enough to have done the above performances, born 17 Jul 1907
died 26 Jul 2002 with her last residence being Worcester, MA. Her SSN
was issued in NY.

Google.ca
	“Loretta Abbott” dancer OR singer
	"Women of Color" "Loretta Abbott"
	"Loretta Abbott"

Her entry in "Biographical Dictionary of Dance," begins "Abbott does
not believe that biographical information is relevant to her
performances," p. 1. I checked the various Who's Who entries that come
up in Biography and Genealogy Master Index and they are all void of
anything close to a birthday or birthyear.

I found that same comment. However, I do not feel that public records
of public figures or celebrities violates the google guidelines or
someone's right to privacy. Here is how I view public records. When
one agrees to sign their name to a marriage certificate or licnese of
any kind, the compact is we, the people, agree to acknowledge that
they are married and have all those privleges, and they agree to tell
us who they are. They put their references out there. It's a 2-way
street. Or doesn't google see it that way?
