How can I get into the engineering tracks of a Fujitsu hard drive? The
range of drives that this is relevant to is the MPG range of hard
drives. I need to be able to flash the E-prom and reset the firmware.
Please help. |

I know all of what you have said. Sorry, I should have been a little
more specific. I am looking for the way into the firmware in the
instance when you dont even have the drive detected. I know that there
is a way of 'flashing' the firmware, but I need to know how to do it
on drives that are not detected.

Simon

Hi,
Could you let me know the details?
1. Hard drive ID - MP????
2. Motherboard bios name & version
Also, could you tell me what exactly do you mean when you say it is
not being detected? Is there a problem in the hard drive? If so, can
you explain?
warm regards

Hi,
Please download and run this utility:
UDMA Utility (For MPG Series Hard Disk Drives)
"The UDMA utility is designed to change the status of the Fujitsu's
MPG series hard disk drives to pre-set transfer rates for compatible
operation. Some motherboards can not run the drive properly at the
detected rate of transfer. Users who experience UDMA replies of
intermittently failing upon starting the Operating System should run
either of the UDMA utilities"
If you have a drive that is not being detected due to the BIOS, you
may have to flash the BIOS first. Once this is done, the flashing
firmware on the detected drive is a cakewalk, as you already are
aware.

vindos,
The motherboard and suchlike is irrelevant. There is a know of problem
on this range of hard drives, (Fujitsu MPG3***AT/AH), it is a
manufacturing fault. We have managed to find three or four people who
can resolve this issue, but we have not yet managed. From a dead
drive, we should be able to resurrect it by flashing the firmware
without it needing powering up.

Hi,
I searched a lot on the 'net for this, but could not find anything.
maybe some more help from you will assist me in understanding the
problem better. Also, it is my own curiosity and interest in this
matter that makes me determined to find a workable solution!
<<We have managed to find three or four people who can resolve this

Can you point me to them? Are these data recovery companies?
<<From a dead drive, we should be able to resurrect it by flashing the

What do you mean by a dead drive? That does'nt show up on CMOS
autodetect, that does not move at all, spindle, etc., meaning dead
because of what? Just the manufacturing defect?
I envisage some kind of device or method that powers up the drive only
to 'flash' the ROM on the controller, or something similar.

Vindos,
By definition, a dead drive is one that is not detected by the BIOS on
the board. This generally means that the PCB on the drive is dead, or
that their is a problem with the firmware. In this instance, it is the
firmware issue.
Good luck on your quest sir.
