I know that the Sabatier processhas been suggested as a way of producingfuel on Marsas part of NASA's project to that planet. I know that the Sabatier process turns H2O and CO2 into Methane. Can I do this in my own home? How? |

Did you mean "H2O" in your question? The Sabatier process turns *hydrogen* and C02 into methane. Ian G. |

The only way to carry the process out with H2O as the starting material would be to 'crack' the water through electrolysis. After that, there are several commercial catalyst which are available to convert the CO2 to CH4. The economics of such a process would be very poor as the capital (in the form of solar cells) or energy (in the form of purchased electricity) would be higher than many other means of obtaining natural gas. |
