Hi boxfarm:
Thanks for the question. It is a little unclear what you mean by "top
500" charities. Are you looking for those that brought in the most
total donations, or are you looking for some other type of ranking
criteria?
Regardless of the criteria, I have not been able to find a listing of
500 charities. I have found the following:
* Top 100 ranked by a financial formula
* Top 100 ranked on more of a "worth" criteria.
Are either of these sufficient for you?
Thanks.

i am looking for a listing of the top 500 charities in america (by
contribution dollars),
divided by their area of interest (or cause). for example....how many
are concerned with cancer, who are they, how much do they raise?; how
many are concerned with child abuse....how many are concerned with
religuous issues............et cetera. with their names and e.mail
addresses if possible.
i am trying to get an overview on charities in america........which
'charitable interests' draw contributuions and in what amounts.

to clarify my question: i am interested in finding out those
'categories' of charities that americans are most interested in.
it would seem that organizing charities by amounts of 'donations
received' would be one way of measuring interest.
but it does not have to be limited to money; perhaps there are other
ways of putting together a 'list' of what americans are interesed in,
from a charitable point of view...............
another example; we know that there is a high interest in 'marital
abuse', but this is not necessarily reflected in donations.
am i being clear? michael

Hi boxfarm-ga! I am really interested in answering your question but
just something to clarify. What is that you really require:
1. The Top 500 US Charities
2. Or the one you mentioned in your latest clarification which is the
categories or types of charities Americans are most interested in.
Furthermore I think tar_heel_v-ga is right since such a massive list
like 500+ for rankings are usually available in document subscriptions
or you have to pay for the publication. If this can't be done, what
would be a more acceptable number. Or would you be interested in
buying such document so that a link to it would also constitute as a
legitimate answer?
Just let me know. :)
