Hello dalehk-ga,
For reference, do you read Chinese and have Chinese Big5 code enabled
in your browser (to see Chinese text)? Some of the articles 'may' be
in Chinese.
Thanks

Lot-ga! I had hoped you would respond to my query. Your answers to
my other questions were so very helpful.

Unfortunately, I do not read Chinese nor can my computer see Chinese.
For the time being, articles in English would be most appreciated. On
second thought, I'd still love to see the Chinese articles -- can we
pass the text through a free translating service?

Thank you,
dalehk-ga

Hello dalehk-ga
Yes, the free translation service I know of works to some extent, but
the English output is very ermm... garbled to say the least. Though
it does make some sense if you are prepared to use educated guesses.
English would be my preferred medium for research too, as searching in
Chinese is a bit tricky.

One point I forgot to clarify was if you were looking for technology
journalists in Hong Kong writing about the HK technology scene or HK
journalists based in HK writing about the global scene e.g. Taiwan
etc.

Hello dalehk-ga

unfortunately with this one, I'm drawing a blank.
So if other researchers can make a contribution to the answer, please do so.

Kind regards

Hi Dalehk,

As far as I know the situation back in Hong Kong (I'm a Shanghai-based
journalist, not focusing on technology) I could help you in pointing
at some influential publication, rather than individual journalists.
Would that be helping you?

Regards,

Fons

In regard to question: Hong Kong technology journalists
Question ID: 123031

QUESTION

Who are the most influential technology journalists in Hong Kong?
Coverage of the semiconductor space is of special interest. Contact
details are required.

ANSWER

Currently, the most influential is an American, Dan Gillmor, currently
on the faculty of the Journalism and Media Studies Center (JMSC),
University of Hong Kong [1]. The referenced URL includes links to
many articles in various journals. A google search on <semiconductor
gillmor> returns a long list of articles covering the semiconductor
space. Gillmor can be contacted via his San Jose Mercury News email
address: DGillmor@sjmercury.com.

Other JMSC faculty members [2] are probably among the most influential
technology journalists in Hong Kong. Specifically, the following have
impressive credentials as technology journalists: Yuen Ying Chan
(yychan@hku.hk) and Andrew Lih (lih@columbia.edu). The referenced URL
provides links to sample publications by each faculty member.

SEARCH STRATEGY

1. To identify influential technology journalists, searched Google
using the following query: <most influential technology journalists in
Hong Kong>

2. To check for coverage of the semiconductor space, searched Google
using the following query: <semiconductor gillmor>

RESEARCH SUMMARY

Three technology journalists were identified. Others can be added by
running the same queries. Dan Gillmor seems to be in a class by
himself. His productivity as a technology journalist is remarkable,
and his articles are both technically sound and easy to read.
