Hello- My mother had several original oil paintings on canvas of
rather "big-eyed" prety young girls, most in subtle pastel shades.
Each painting is signed "IGOR" (only). One painting (on back) states
that the artist IGOR was born in Poland in 1911 & that he studied in
Paris. I need additional info on this artist & I am interested in
locating collectors, values, etc. Thanks for assistance.

At first, I thought this would be one of those street
corner, nobody has heard of, kinds of artists, but he
is actually mentioned (not at length) in a few places.

But, also typical of relatively obscure things, you get
one or two sources, and that is about it. The first
site is probably your best bet.

This first group are all from the same site:

Big Eyed News

BIG EYED MASTERS- the book

"Finally a book all about the big eyed masters we love so much! I am
currently at work on a book with co-writers Matthew and Lisa sweet,
which will include bios and beautiful examples of paintings by artists
such as Keane, Gig, Maio, Igor, Franca etc... The book will be
published by Last Gasp. Due out sometime next year-- Additional
information will be posted soon!"

http://besmirched.tripod.com/mastersindex.html

"Big Eyed Masters includes the lives and times of the most familiar
artists: Keane, Maio, Igor, Gig, Franca, Eden. And delves into the
more obscure and rarely seen. From the fine-art to the
ultra-commercial and all the sad eyed moppets and pitiful animals
in-between."

"There really isn't a place to go, -that has any real information
about the artists that were, oh so, popular in the early sixties until
about the mid seventies-. Walter and/or Margaret Keane, Gig, Maio,
Eden, Eve, Lee, Goji, Ozz Franca, and Igor just to name a few, were
all the rage ..."

...

Here's a few items I'm looking for:
"Ceramic & Plastic Big Eyed Cat & Dog figurines/planters
(enesco&others), Susie Sad Eye Dolls, Little Miss No Name Doll
(Actually just the box that she originally came in), original
paintings by Keane and Gig , as well as original art by Miree, Lee,
Eve, Eden, Franca, Ward, Goji, Ishii, Gunilla, Miki, Sherle, Igor,
Maio"

"Well, there is no expert on this subject, and I don’t consider myself
an authority. But along with a couple of friends, who also seek out
these items, and have a good sense of what is going on. I do believe,
where I don’t have any place to say what certain items are worth. I DO
think I can give an accurate idea of what they are NOT worth."

"e-bay usually has a at least a couple of pages worth of big-eyed art,
(big-eyed or keane will bring up results on the search engine) I
bought a nice one there before. But thrift stores are the best, you
can buy them for really cheap!

I'd like to find some "igor" pieces, but have no luck finding
those....."

A quick search on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com) showed several Keane
prints but no originals for pricing and no Igor.

Take a look at http://besmirched.tripod.com/masters.html as they are
putting a book together about big-eyed artists and there are some
email addresses there that you can contact.
