I am using visual basic, I am not a beginner.
my problem is that my IDE no longer compiles my webclass projects when
I try to debug them. I can compile an EXE or DLL fine, but when I
click run in the designer, it will create the ASP, but not the
webclass DLL

When I click Run in The IDE to degub a webclass, it creates a virtual
directory pointing at the application directory, and compiles a
temporary copy of the dll, and then loads the webbrowser pointing at
the ASP file that is to load the DLL, and do what it is supposed to
do.

in a perfect world.

mine used to do that, it doesn't create the dll anymore.. even when I
have eradicated any prior presence of the dll, ASP, and removed the
registry references, it still doesn't do it.

Hi, omnitel-ga:

Is this the behavior on all webclass projects (as your wording
implies), or just a single project? I have a few Technical Support
calls I can use before the end of the year with Microsoft, and I'd
consider using one to solve your problem. I'd really need to have a
lot of information in hand to attempt this, though.

Please bear in mind the TOS forbid any direct contact, but you could
perhaps post your zipped up project on a Web site and let me know
where to download it. There are a number of free Web hosting sites,
if you need one.

The thing is, it's not the project, It works on another machine that I
have set up for testing, but on the machine that I use to do my
developement on, it doesn't do it.

Yes, it does it for any webclass project. on this machine, I can only
assume that there is some setting in the IDE that has become
corrupted.

I have the project loaded, I edit the code, and click the run button.
and when you would normally see the progress bar at the top of the
screen, move across as it compiles the project, it does nothing. it
asks if I want to overwrite the ASP, and I click yes, then it opens a
browser to activate the project, and I get the error message. I look
in the directory, and there is an ASP there. and no DLL.
It will debug EXE's no problem, but it will not debug a webclass DLL
unless I tell it to make it from the file menu. and install it on the
webserver, then it works fine. I tried reinstalling SP5, and no go, I
have not tried a full reinstall of VB6. I have all the settings just
the way I want them, and would rather just tweak the registry setting,
or ini file, or whatever, to fix it.

I really don't know what more I can say. and I'm sorry, I can't post
the project, my boss would murder me :-)..

My apologies if this does not apply, but debugging projects that
involve DLLs is often complicated by the retention in memory of an
earlier version of the DLL. Therefore even when one explicitly
rebuilds a DLL, the debugging may pick an old copy already loaded into
the memory space of the IDE. Is it possible this is the sort of
problem you are having?
