I believe the will is private until it goes to probate... then it is a
matter of public record and you can find out.  If he has a living
trust and a will that said everything goes to the living trust, then
you won't know at all. (I am not an attorney, but I think this is
right!)

You may be a bit premature in asking for this information--normally
the will is not filed until sometime within 30 days after the person's
death, and whoever is handling his estate affairs may be too busy
doing other things and possibly hasn't gotten to it yet.  Visit the
website www.the-seeker.com and post your query there (as if you were
searching for him as a long-lost friend) and you will get a response
with helpful information. Also, if you were interested in his obituary
(not too many surviving relatives except nieces and nephews), then
visit www.pasadenastarnews.com and do a search on his name or through
the obituaries link.

The number to call is (213) 974-5175 (Los Angeles County Superior
Court), and the clerk there can tell you whether or not the will has
been filed (you need to know month and year of decedent's death).
