Where in the USA, preferably in the NYC vicinity, can I locate an
"eternity" ring made by the manufacturer: Barnett Robinson, style
number 2150 SDP. (That company is NY based). I do not want my name
used in this search

I am interested in a store OTHER THAN "E. Ross" in Bronxville, NY.

It's too bad you didn't mention originally that I shouldn't say "E.
Ross" to the people at Barnett Robinson. I had included that in my
voice mail to them already, since it was in your question; I didn't
want them to call me back and tell me to go to E. Ross. Perhaps I was
imagining it, but when I called today, they seemed to be wondering who
I was.

In any event, I did talk to the owner of Barnett Robinson. She said
that she couldn't think of anyone besides E. Ross that sells this
ring.

However, she said that it's not a complicated ring for certain
better-quality jewelry makers to do. She had two specific
recommendations for places you could visit or contact in New York
City, to make a ring like the "Eternity".

Would you be interested in those recommendations as an answer?

Just to clarify: the manufacturer says she sells that ring to no one
else in the entire country?
If that is the case it would be great to know who else makes such a
ring. Thanks.

That's what she said: she sells all over the country, but that she
couldn't think of anyone besides E. Ross that sells this ring.

She did not tell me specifically that the two places that she
recommended do make such a ring already; however, she definitely told
me that they should be able to make such a ring. Given that, should I
post an answer?

I would ask her for the names of the jewelers who she believes can
create this ring. It is always tricky, however, to have someone
create ring when they haven't done it before in a particular way -
it's not always comfortable. I think they need to do it repeatedly to
"get the kinks out". They do not sell directly right?

I would also ask if there is any way she could check her files (rather
than just trying to remember) to see whether there is a retailer
somewhere from whom this ring might be purchased.

Thank you again, you are excellent

She has already told me the names of the jewelers she thinks can make
this ring. She said specifically, "I know they have the quality" to
make the ring.

I don't think it would be productive for me to call her again. She
indicated that she already knew about the question from my voice mail.
So she had thought about it already, and didn't know of anyone else.
Moreover, as I mentioned, I had the feeling she seemed to be wondering
who I was (in other words, what was my reason for calling).

If you'd like, I can post the answer I've suggested, and include the
published number for this company, so that if you want to
double-check, someone you know can call and do that.

Hello md178,

You already know the background to this answer, which is contained in
the comment and clarification sections. So I'll proceed right to the
answer that I stated I would provide.

The first place that the owner of Barnett Robinson recommended is
Harry Winston, which she noted is located at 718 5th Ave. (at 56th
St.). She also mentioned their number, which is (212) 245-2000. This
information is confirmed on the Harry Winston web site.

"Salons"
Harry Winston
http://www.harry-winston.com/salons.html

The second place she recommended is Tiffany's. Here is the
information on their Manhattan store, which is conveniently located
near Harry Winston.

"Store Locations ... New York"
Tiffany & Co.

As I noted, she told me that it's not a complicated ring for these
jewelry makers to do. To assist them, she said that you can inform or
remind them that it is a five-stone oval ring.

The published number for Barnett Robinson is (212) 682-1086. (It is
listed in Internet telephone directories as "Robinson Barnett Inc."; I
assume this is because the directories are treating the name like a
personal name, last name first.) Here is the result of my search in
one directory -- MSN Yellow Pages ( http://yellowpages.msn.com/ ) --
for New York, NY, for the terms, Barnett Robinson:

http://yp111.superpages.com/listings.phtml?SRC=msn&STYPE=S&C=&N=barnett+robinson&T=new+york&S=NY&PP=N&Search=Find+It&rtd=yp109.superpages.com-111411

I assume that this will work out well; the two jewelers that the owner
mentioned have excellent reputations.

Reason this answer was rejected by md178-ga:
While I appreciated the process, in the end, no one in their right
mind would have paid for such an answer. The stores (the answer)I was
referred to are the most famous of their type certainly in NY if not
the country. They are also the most expensive. Had I wanted to deal
with them I certainly didn't need Google to tell me they were
available. I believe that would be obvious to anyone. The researcher
indicated that he could not find the answer I was looking for but that
he had found two other options of places to go. I assumed these were
not obvious, well-known stores. He asked if I wanted those two
options to be posted as an answer. I think he should have given me
that information without forcing it to be "the answer" because it is
not at all the answer. My feeling is that there was no answer, in
fact, at least from him. Instead of asking me if I wanted that
information as "an answer", he should have given that information to
me and I would have responded by saying, I do not want to stop here.
Instead, by forcing me to call his two options "an anwer" he closed
the search. I feel it was a bit of a game: "do you want me to post
those two options as an answer?" or something like that. If they had
been unknow stores it would have been an answer. But this really was
a game. I am looking for a specific piece of jewelry and I ask you to
go to the manufacturer to find out where I can get it retail. You
tell me she says go to Tiffany and Harry Winston and they'll make
something similar. This in non-information. I've never used this
service before and it's not the money really but I felt insulted when
I recieved the "answer".

Hi md178,

I have left a message on Barnett Robinson's voice mail, asking the
question you have asked. (I did not use your name.) Since it's late
on a Saturday, I presume that no one will return my call until Monday
morning at the earliest. I'll call them back at that time as well.
Perhaps, in the meantime, another Researcher will find what you're
looking for on the Internet.

Hi and thanks;

Please do not specifically mention anything about E. Ross in
Bronxville, if you have not already. Let them tell you where this
ring might be found and if E. Ross is the only NY based store
mentioned, please ask for other stores in increasing distances from
NYC (New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, etc.). Ideally, I would
have 4-6 places to choose from. They will ask where you saw the ring,
I think. The answer to that is "on someone's hand who was from
Dallas."

I never did this on Google before, it's great and thanks a lot!
