Dear lizzy21,

You requested information about the differences between the following
marketing terms – “click and click” and “click and brick.” First, let
me request that if any of the following is unclear or if you require
any further research – please don’t hesitate to ask me for a
clarification.

I suspect that “click and brick” is actually “bricks and clicks” more
commonly known as “clicks and mortar.” The origin of all of these
terms is from the traditional terminology for “real businesses” – i.e.
not virtual businesses, mail order businesses, online businesses etc.
– which is “bricks and mortar.” Around 1997 or 1998 someone coined
the term “clicks and mortar” in order to differentiate (mostly)
between retail establishments with real physical storefronts, and
dot.com retailers, or e-tailers, with Web sites but no real presence
(in malls, street fronts etc.)

Today, a “click and click” (or “clicks and clicks”) is a 100%
Internet-based business with no physical presence whatsoever, a
virtual entity without storefronts or distribution (typically these
type of retailers never see the product, they only coordinate sales
and their suppliers drop-ship to customers).

“Click and brick” or “clicks and bricks” are e-tailers (or other types
of Internet companies) that have bridged the virtual and the physical.
For example, a “clicks and bricks” Internet player will have an
Internet presence but also a real, physical world presence, e.g.
Expedia – started as a Web only entity but today has storefronts in
major airports (for example, in San Jose).

I hope this response adequately addresses your request. Please let me
know if you are in need of additional information concerning this
query.

Thanks,
ragingacademic
