My Fujitsu Lifebook S-4546 has a number of possibly related problems.
(i) When the machine goes into standby/suspend mode, it frequently
will not resume, so that the only way to make it recover is to reboot.
(ii) The battery lasts a very short time (less than an hour). (iii)
The power key above the keyboard doesn't work. I searched the Fujitsu
website and found an FAQ entry that mentions the sort of problems in
(i) and (ii), and gives a solution (related to McAfee virus updates),
but it applies only to Windows 2000 and XP, and doesn't work on my
Windows 98 machine (no McAfee updates in the task scheduler). Is
there something else I should be doing for Windows 98? Failing that,
I may try getting a new battery for (ii), so it would be useful to
know the part number and a good place to order it.

Thanks. Actually I'd contacted Fujitsu already, who had given me a
completely
different answer. However, neither answer worked -- it appears to me
that they
are highly generic suggestions. (And to add insult to injury, the
link to the battery isn't currently working.) I give Fujitsu's
support service 1 star! As
for your answer, it was a reasonable idea to contact Fujitsu, but
didn't work in this case. I'm now thinking the standby recovery
problem could be a consequence of the power button problem, with the
battery problem something separate.
