I recently purchased a iRiver MP3 player (model iFP-180T). I was told
by the salesman at the store that the device works on Macs, however I
cannot seem to verify that information.

The CD-ROM that came with device includes only Windows software and
the iRiver website does not seem to offer a Macintosh download.

I am wondering if there is still a way I can use the device on my
Macintosh? Currently when I plug the device in, nothing happens. I was
hoping I could get the player to mount on my desktop so I could drag
files on to it.

I am running Macintosh OS X (Jaguar). I also have OS 9 installed
although would prefer a OS X solution. Please do not suggest running
Virtual PC as this is not a viable option for me.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,
have you plugged it into the rear USB ports? The keyboard USB port
does not supply enough power to some devices. You could give that a
try if you haven't already. Also 'maybe' the sales person thought a
Mac was a brand of PC like IBM :-0)
kind regards

Thanks for the idea. The device is plugged into one of the main USB
ports, not via the keyboard.

Ha. I was going to point out a discussion in the Apple.com discussion
area about this same player, but then I noticed that the author of the
posting over there appears to be you! As you probably have read
there, it doesn't look like there is any general USB Mac support for
that iRiver product:
" Accessing USB Devices"

A link included in that thread (which I list here in case anyone is
interested, although I realize that you weren't necessarily looking
for iTunes compatibility):
"iTunes compatible devices":
