Greetings - I am trying to find out the file format for NDL's "NetImmerse File Format, Version 4.2.1.0", really just version 4.2. This "nif" file contains polygon information for a graphics/physics engine. I am looking for a specification with a similar look/feel as this: http://home.cinci.rr.com/jimadam/MorrowindESPFormat.html. (This document has a reference mechanism to other .nif files) The end result of what I'm looking for is byte offsets, and root/child/node information. Please let me know if you need more clarification. |

Hi buliwyf-ga, Unfortunately, the NetImmerse file format is a proprietery format whose contents are a closely guarded secret. It appears that companies that license or buy this engine do not have the right to release its code. Also, the companies that license the engine can extend the file format by adding custom object classes to it. This means that even if you knew the default NetImmerse file format, you would still not be able to make sense of the nif files shipping with a particular game unless you knew what modifications had been made to it. - Google Groups Posting Subject: NetImmerse File Format Newsgroups: comp.graphics.algorithms ( http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=mPRO7.137908%24HA6.20534910%40typhoon.southeast.rr.com) - Messing with Panzer General III Scorched Earth ( www.strategyplanet.com/panzergeneral/PG3SEText_Messing_wth_PG3.html#NIF ) You can of course, license the NetImmerse SDK or download the free plugins they have for Maya and 3D Studio Max from - The Numerical Design Ltd. Website ( http://www.ndl.com/ ) Hope this helps. Theta-ga (Google Answers Researcher) :) |

Yea, I found that too.. I was hoping a researcher could find something I could not. :) Rev-engineering 3.x was a pain, and 4.x seems to be 10x as much a pain. |
