Greeting Iandee64! I also had this problem before so I'm going to
provide you steps on how to solve this situation. This type of problem
seems to happen when the system tries to revert to it's original
display settings after receiving a fatal error message. The display
settings may have changed although it doesn't appear to be so. You did
not specify what OS you are using so temporarily I'll use Windows 98
as an example. Here are the steps to take:
1) Right-click on the desktop. Choose "Properties". A window will
appear.
2) Go to the "Settings" tab. You will find "Colors" on the lower-left
side of the window. Depending on your video card, there are several
choices top chooose from: 16 Colors; 256 Colors; High Color (16 bit);
and True Color (24 bit) or (32 bit). Choose the highest color
possible.
3) On the lower-right side there is a slider. Choose the appropriate
"Screen area" setting for your monitor. As a guide you can choose
800x600 for 14" and 15" monitors, but you can also choose 1024x768 for
15" to 19" monitors.
In case this doesn't solve your problem, your video card driver may
have a problem. To check, do the following:
1) Right-click on the "My Computer" icon or press the Windows button
on your keyboard and the "Pause Break" button. The "System Properties"
window will appear.
2) Choose the "Device Manager" tab. Make sure you choose the "View
devices by type" radio button. Look for the "Display adapters". If
there is a problem regarding your video card, you will find a yellow
circle with an exclamation point beside the video card device. If so,
you will need to reinstall the driver.
Even if there is no exclamation point beside the device, if you are
still experiencing the problem, you can/may reinstall the driver.
Since you did not also specify your video card, I will help find the
right driver and guide you later if the first step of adjusting the
color properties fail. Please specify your Windows version and video
card next time. Please feel free to post your clarification before
rating this and I'll attend to you as soon as possible.
