Can you help me find a song?

I heard it on a local mall's muzak pipe and I completley forgot the
lyrics that I made a point of remembering. All I can really remember
is a short part of the melody which I've unskillfully banged out into a .wav file!

http://members.shaw.ca/atrauzzi/argh.wav

The song is pop, not rock.

It's most likely from the 80s with a female vocalist singing, all I
need is a band and a song name. I'm not nessecarily asking for a raw
copy of the song. It's just been bugging me for quite some while, and
I realize how vague any information I'm giving is...But..ARGH!

As a last kick, if I pretended like I remembered anything of the
lyrics, one part had (this is NOT verbatim) "...I get home, but
you're out with another girl..."

..Or something like that!

Happy hunting!! I would definitley pay for an answer to this question
at this point, although hopefully if it only resulted in a bullseye
find! Nobody else seems willing to help, or knows.

Thank you so much in advance.

Dear sniperslap-ga:

I really want to help you because now I'M curious too. I don't mean
any offense because your effort was not only admirable, it's more than
many others have offered when asking this same type of question in the
past, but is there any chance you can work on yor wav file a bit more?
It's awfully vague and could match thousands of tunes. If you can't
spruce it up a bit I'm afraid the answer may prove to be very
difficult to find at any price. With no real lyrics, no artists name
and a few notes that may or may not resemble the song, this will be
tough at best.

Yes, actually...I've thought about working on adding a little bit.
It's very difficult though, as I don't really have 100% mastery of
generating musical samples.

In the meantime, I would say...Assume that there is a major (I'm
trying to use musical terminology here) harmony going on at the same
time using a high octave saw-wave synth sound. If not for any other
purpose but to give a feel for the song's genre.

I will try and get a better file up some time between now and tomorrow
night.

Here's a little more that I can throw out about it.

- I'm almost certain that the song had connotations of a man's
fidelity in it, as I quoted before.

- I assume that it was made in late 80s, early 90s.

- The .wav file I have up currently is from the end bit of the main
chorus for the song. The word sung with it has three
syllables...Something like "naturally", or "actually". This little
bit here is what bugs me the most, because it's the closest I can get
to actually singing the song. But really...It's only a three syllable
run!

I regret not having something to write on at the time, otherwise I'd
have had the song by the time I got home that day!

Please, feel free to ask for more info at any point in time. I'll try
my best!

I'm just on my way out shortly...But what I've decided to do is
quickly whistle out a .mp3 file.
I was going through some other unanswered questions, and saw that
somebody else had done this previously.

Who knows how it helped!

Basically I've thrown in what I think to be the last three notes.
It's otherwise the same. I mean...It's really simple stuff,
seriously. Just going down the octave. But somehow it got turned
into a song that I like!

;) LOL

Think of the last extra bit as

"an' ac-tua-lly"
or...
"'an na-tur-ally"

Yeesh! I'm going outta my head!

The tune sounds close to "Blister in the Sun" by Violent Femmes, but
I'm sure it's no cigar, since you said there's a female vocalist. By
the way could you describe other traits of the track you heard? If
it's Janet Jackson, as some have suggested, it would be R&B, and I
think it won't fit your description of a synth song. What kind of
instrument sounds like the melody you've recorded, flute, acoustic
guitar, electronic organ or electric guitar? You have any idea of the
speed? Maybe you can name other songs that have the same tempo or
sound similar, to give an idea (such as "Take on Me" by A-ha, as a
benchmark for tempo). I'm pretty fond of 80's new wave songs, so I'll
sift through what I have that might sound like it.

By the way, try "Cross my Heart" by Eighth Wonder, just to see if it
may be similar.

Clarification of Question by sniperslap-ga on 19 Dec 2002 05:37 PST
120bpm? It's not too slow, not too fast. Not as fast as Take on Me
though.

The TEMPO is comparable to maybe...Janet Jackson's "Together Again".
Nothing else though.

The music that I have recorded/whistled is done by the vocals, not an
instrument.

I'm at a loss to guess what genre I'm looking for this song in.

Let me put it this way...I really know very little about the song,
except for some of how a tiny tiny tiny bit of it sounds.

I'm REALLY good at searching for things on Google, and FINDING them.
Unfortunatley, this time...I require assistance. Most likely outside
of Google, and more within the realm of people's personal
taste/experience.

Now, I'm not discounting everything here, but odds are, I've tried
many many many many many thorough quotation searches, that you too
will end up trying.

They're the only kind I do, as it's the only way you can generate
reliable results.

I'm still looking long & hard for this song, and don't plan on
stopping any time soon.

:D

Could it be, "I FALL TO PEICES" originally recorded by Patsy Cline but
re-recorded in the 80's by Linda Ronstadt?

It didn't sound like something Linda Ronstadt'd have done.

This was a little more of an upbeat 80s synth song.
I also can't seem to find a copy of "I fall to pieces" by Linda
Ronstadt. I really wish I knew more about this song.

It probably has to be a top-40 song to make it onto muzak, right?
Maybe...maybe not...I dunno.

Here are the lyrics to I FALL TO PEICES" By Patsy Cline (Later Linda
Ronstadt, and of late, Leann Rimes)

I fall to peices
Each time I see you again
I fall to peices
How can I be just your friend?

You want me to act like we've never kissed
You want me to forget
Pretend we've never met
And I've tried and I've tried but I haven't yet
You walk by and I fall to peices

I fall to peices
Each time someone speaks your name
I fall to peices
Time only acts to the flame

You tell me to find someone else to love
Someone whol'll love me to
The way you used to do
But each time I go out with someone new
You walk by and I fall to peices

You walk by and I fall to peices

In answer to your question, yes, this sound, in its time was HUGE and
it has been in the top 40 several times over the years. As far as
having to be a hit to be used by musak's service, I highly doubt it.
In fact, many one hit wonders and other forgettable songs have been
banished to musak forever because they simply stink as a song, but
sound pretty good as an instrumental. Keep in mind too that once a
song gets re-recorded as an instrumental, its not uncommon for it to
be spiced up a bit, in a hip, lounge lizard sort of way, especially by
musak. What may now sound like a really cool riff or solo in the song
when heard in the elevator, may never have existed in the actual tune,
and the tempo may be way off the original score.

Here's a link to a "musak sytle" midi of the song I FALL TO PEICES.

Nope. I'm sure it isn't "I fall to pieces".

Thanks though! LOL

I just wanted to repeat that the song is POP and NOT ROCK.
The singing sounds like Madonna, or Janet Jackson...It's a very
typical sounding song, but I just can't seem to find it under any of
the common artists.

Either I'm missing it somehow, or I just don't know of a certain
artist who has a similar style.

So...POP...NOT ROCK...

Hello sniperslap-ga,

I couldn't resist giving it a try.

Could it be "Straight Up" Or "Cold Hearted" by Paula Abdul?

You can hear clips of both of them at Amazon.com
(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004S549/qid=1040270634/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-4843040-1178308?v=glance&s=music).

I have my fingers crossed.

Nope :( Just had a listen.

There are many songs that I have already had long before hearing this
song. Many of the suggestions that have come up are very mainstream
songs that I've already got.

Basically, this song was a little less prominent. It had to have
been, otherwise many of the 80s "channels" I frequent online would
have given it some airtime by now. But somehow, it made it onto mall
muzak.

I'm certain that it's not a remix, because I do know that I've heard
this song before.

It's not Paula Abdul. The voice is a bit younger sounding.

Ugh.

The search continues.

what about karla bonoff's "Personally"

or Debbie Gibson's "Naturally"?

the karla bonoff one is actually even listed on the muzak.com site playlist..

good luck,

Hi again. I've been this question a while. Then I thought of Lisa
Stansfield and the singer of "Love is Contagious" (Sybil, I think).
Are these voices similar to the voice of the singer you heard in the
song?

The song I'm after is faster. Not by too much. But it's got more of
a bopping beat. As far as how the voice sounds...It's a closer match
than any I've got so far.
