I want to buy a teddy bear in a rock climbing outfit for my friend for

delivery in January is ok.) I'm looking to spend about $50 (or

Hi jill01-ga,

I'm very aware that the bear outfits I've provided for you are not
specifically tailored for the rock climber, but for hikers. Being an
avid hiker in and around the mountains where I live, many times I
ended up rock climbing getting from place to place!

Sturdy clothing, a hat or cap, shoes with good gripping soles, and a
backpack should take care of any trip into the mountains. ;)

So, this is what I was able to find for you.

1 - Fisher Price has discontinued the line of Briarberry teddy's.
However at the end of this section there's a list of probably place he
can be found.
http://hmmmk.tripod.com/briarberry.htm

"BenBerry Product#: 75056 Ages: 3 yrs. & up Approximate Retail Price:
$15.00 This mountain-climbing bear always wants to be outside! He
loves to hike, canoe, camp, play tag with frogs and be a good friend!
If your favorite color is navy blue, this little bear's is, too! He
comes with a storybook so you can enjoy reading about enthusiastic
Benberry's adventures. Storybook is titled, "A Country Fair Surprise -
Benberry and Ashleyberry lend a helping hand". Also comes with green
frog hangtag. First of only two boy bears in the line. Newest bear of
the line. (2000) Meet BenBerry! at this site:"

"Every Vonnie Bear is made with as much care and love as was the very
first. Each has its own little personality. To own a Vonnie Bear or to
give one to that special person gives a special feeling. I read
something not long ago that said,

"The person that says they don't need a teddy bear is the very person
that does.""

I had a lot of fun doing the research and at times found myself
laughing out loud at some of the outfits shown.

Google search words: "teddy bears", "teddy bear clothing", "custom
made teddy bears"

What I'm actually looking for is a bear with a climbing rope, harness,
and carabiner. I realize how difficult this is to find. :( I'm
writing to the place you suggested with the custom made orders, as
well as one that a commenter posted. In your web travels, did you
come across any other sites that do custom orders that might look like
they would do this one?

Hi jill01,

I really did try to find rock climbing teddy bears! I really did...
but wasn't able to come up with the unique request other than having
him/her custom made.

(Most of the bears available online are very tame and don't like to
exercise much!} :)

Some of the bears available were dressed for a special occassion such
as birthday, holiday, first day of school, engagement, anniversary, or
were in work costumes such as musician, fireman, policman, etc. I
found bears in tuxedos! But nothing with all the gear needed for rock
climbing.

I didn't include the following custom made teddy bear because they're
quite pricey.

Teddy Bears Galore!
by Jacqueline Ellen but the pricing starts at $129 for the "Custom
Deluxe" Bear.
(BEAR # 2) And, she requires a $75.00 deposit before she begins and
the balance due when bear is complete.

"If you have a unique idea or need a totally CUSTOM DELUXE BEAR,
contact me directly and I will prepare an estimate. . Some of the
bears that I have done recently include a "Punk Rocker Bear"," Raving
Bear", "Bridesmaid Bear" ... you get the idea.

Send an email with all the details: Jacqueline@beyondthesidewalks.com

---------------
No prices were available online but you can contact the Teddy Bear
Place.

You can have your teddy bear custom made the size and style you want,
using the materials that may have a special meaning to you. I've
heard about this wonderful lady - Nancy Meidinger, who gives teddy
bear instruction, does bear repairs and will create a bear for you.

fax: (615) 232-7387

This lady will "stuff a bear from your old fur coat"!! Cost is
$140... She'll do "theme bears" to your specifications. Email

A simple carabiner such as shown on this page can be purchased at any
Hardware Store.

(This has to be the longest url (link) on the web, but it IS working.)

So, in my web travels I can say - no, no rock climbers in the teddy
bear field. But hopefully one of the links provided for custom made
teddies will be able to come up with the perfect rock climber with all
necessary gear: harness, rope, carabiner - and don't forget the water
bottle. Bears get thirsty too!

Hi jill01-ga,

I did a search in Froogle.com which is Google's latest innovation. I
didn't find any teddy bears who love to rock climb, but did locate a
very cool book for kids age 5-9.

(BX1265) THE TEDDY BEAR'S GREAT EXPEDITION
Theobalds, Prue
WAS $12.95 SALE: $7.50
1990. 26 pp, color ills. All the Teddy Bears go on a camping and
climbing expedition to find their ancestor, a wild bear. Larger
hardcover. Ages 5-9.

Even though I'm going to make my own using a link from a commenter,
tlspiegel's responses were thorough and detailed. I have no doubt
that if the item I was looking for were actually out there, tlspiegel
would have found it.

Why not try the Vermont Teddy Bear Company and see if they can tweak
an outfit to resemble a rock-climber?

Here's a cute picture of a rock-climbing teddy bear from a card shop.
You could always buy a teddy bear and have a "talented" sewing friend
make a quick little outfit!
