jim1946-ga, Thanks for contacting Google Answers! The hints from other researchers were very helpful here. First, he did not play in the NFL under the Colts, according to a search performed by someone at the Colts' general office. He was not ever on a roster there according to Bill [Brooks?] in the general office Training camp records were not available, however. He isn't in Total Football II, as mwalcoff-ga states. He did win the Maginnis Award, in 1989, and the Red Worrell Award, in 1987. (Penn State Athletics). He was a player at Penn State (according to the Sports Information Office) from 87-89. He was from Summit, NJ and was a Master's Candidate. (It's possible he played in earlier years but since he wasn't a letterman in those years, he may not be recorded.) I'm still waiting for a call back from the Sports Archivist at PSU to find out the high school details, but you could pursue this information yourself. I will annotate my answer if I get that call back. The Sports Information Department claims he didn't go to the NFL but suggested the press information from the Sports Archivist might report a different story. Joe Paterno was indeed the coach for all the years Freeman played. Good luck! Thanks, arimathea-ga Google Answers Researcher Search methodology: Google searches on Tim Freeman, Maginnis Memorial Award, Joe Paterno, and Merrill Lynch in various combinations. - Called PSU - Called Indianpolis Colts General Office | |

Clues for researchers: The Richard Maginnis Memorial Award is presented to the outstanding Penn State offensive lineman who exemplifies the spirit, dedication and commitment which Maginnis displayed as a member of the 1980-83 Nittany Lion teams. The award was established by the members of the 1982 National Championship team in memory of Maginnis. Here is some more information: At PSU, Freeman: Started 4 games in 1987 Lettered in 1988 and started 8 games Lettered and started in all games in 1989 Correction. He played offensive tackle. The only stats I could find were what he had one tackle in 1989. As an offenive tackle, there are not going to be too many statistics avaialble. |

Are you sure Tim Freeman played in the NFL? He is not listed in Total Football II, the official player record of the NFL. He only would be listed if he played in a regular-season or playoff game. He might have been on the team in the preseason or been on the team in the regular season but without playing. I don't see him listed as a draft pick for any team in 1990. Incidentally, since Freeman is still alive (according to the York Daily Record article), you probably can try to find him yourself through Merrill Lynch. You also should try the Sports Information Department at Penn State, who could tell you where he went to high school, along with other information. |
