Thanks for your question. The laws regarding the mailing of alcoholic
beverages to Canada is pretty straight forward. Until May of this
year, Canadian Postal Regulations prohibit the shipping of alcohol via
the mail. Even with the changes of this year, only businesses in the
alcohol trade can send alcoholic beverages via the Candian post. On
top of that, it is still illegal to send alcohol via the US Postal
Service. Alcoholic beverages are considered prohibited goods and
therefore cannot be shipped into Canada.
In researching, it appears that there is no legal way of sending wine,
or any alcoholic beverage, into Canada from the United States. The
only way is to physically transport it, by hand, and even then, you
cannot bring more than 40 ounces (1.14 litres) of wine.
I am sorry you will be unable to send the wine to your friend. Maybe
a trip to Canada would add extra value to the gift. Thanks again for
your question and if you need any additional clarification, please let
me know.
Regards,
-THV
