Okay, this is just one of those things that is vexing me that I want
to fix even though it is insignificant. In the Print Layout view in
Word, the program is putting these little, grey "L" shapes in the 4
corners of the document at the intersection of the left and right
margins and the header and footer. So, these are marks inside the
page. I know that they don't get printed, but they still bother me,
so help me get them to go away. I am using Word 2000.

P.S. When I say L-shaped, I mean just that, this in their shape, but
they are in 4 different orientations to match the corner they are in.
Got it?

Yes, I'm OCD.

Hi thekirklands-ga,

Yes, just another pesky option available in MS Word I suppose :)

There is a simple fix that will get rid of that:

1. Go to Tools > Options
2. Select the "View" tab
3. Under the "Print and Web Layout Options" unselect "Text Boundaries"

That should do it :)

Cheers!

Didn't work:

Your answered worked on what I have at home (office 97 pro, I think),
but didn't work on 2000, as I mentioned I was using in my original
question. In 2000, that seems to add and remove lines that surround
the text area...not the actual "L" shapes on the corners, which I know
for a fact are not always there. Please try to find another fix.

Hi Eric,

Since this option is the only one that affects the "L-shape" objects,
I have a feeling that a larger problem is lurking. If you haven't done
so already, I would go to the Microsoft Download Center and install
all major updates:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?langid=20&displaylang=en

Typically, MS Office 2000 users are advised to install three major
service packs which have been designed to solve a multitude of
errors/problems. These are the SR-1a, SP-2, and SP-3.

You can access these from the above page and then doing the following:

1. Select "Office" as your Product/Technology and click "Go"
2. The results of this search contain all three updates:
   SR-1a - Download #1
   SP-2 - Download #4
   SP-3 - Download #2

Be sure to install these in order and restart between the install of
each one.

Thanks for using Google Answers.
