Dear deseven-ga I have telephoned Sommerville College, Oxford and they have information on Old Sommervillonians and in particular your mother. I suggest you call a Mrs Cook of the Office of Association of Senior Members, Sommerville College on +44 1865 270632 or if your phoning from the UK 01865 270632. The college closes for Christmas on 20.12.02 The college web site is at http://www.some.ox.ac.uk/offices/of_frame.html england_ali-ga has kindly supplied the other part of the answer. Good luck in your research. answerfinder-ga |

Hi, To answer part of your question... 'From 1878, academic halls were established for women, who became members of the University in 1920. Since 1974, all but one of Oxford's 39 colleges have changed their statutes to admit both men and women. St Hilda's remains the only women's college.' A Brief History of the Oxford University (http://www.ox.ac.uk/aboutoxford/history.shtml ) Regards, Alison |
