Dear aaguila,
I am no computer expert, but I recently had the same problem. As
it turned out there were several things running in the background that
were messing me up. I had downloaded a file that needed realplayer
and it was slowing things down. Also, my temp file was full with
about 350 files. After uninstalling realplayer and emptying my temp
file, it made all the difference.Good luck |

You may be having harddrive issues. Double check that your harddrive is configured properly in BIOS (system setup screen), usually by pressing F2 or F10. Enable Bus Mastering or 32-bit access if the options are there. Your manual will help with this. If your harddrive is working really hard (HDD light is always on even when running simple programs like NotePad) it **may** be not up to the task of running Windows 2000. Check to see if your system specifications are in line with what Microsoft recommends. I have an old IBM that would operate like your machine, it was simply not up to spec. Could you please explain if this is a new computer which had no operating system or if you installed Windows 2000 over another OS? If so, which? How much memory did you have before the upgrade and how much do you have now? Keep in mind that Windows 2000 has more stricter RAM requirements than Windows 98. The minimum RAM for a Windows 98 machine would be 32 MB of RAM. For Windows 2000, the minimum should be 64 MB, although 128MB or more definately helps. From the Crucical memory website: http://www.crucial.com/uk/library/win2k_user_profile_summary.asp Windows 2000 Minimum RAM Recommendations Content Creators 256MB Business Users 128MB Internet Surfing Only 96MB Internet + Other Programs 128MB Auriclus-ga |
