A special thanks to techtor and easterangel for their quality work.
Is there a simple software that can transfer records from MS Office
application to export them in a Virtual Card File (VCF) format? I am
looking for a software that can take data from an MS XL, Outlook, or
even a text file; and transfer all the records inside this file into
VCFs. |

My thanks for looking for me and Easterangel.
Many sites I've found show conversion of Outlook Book Address Book
entries into .VCF. If you're looking for separate conversion software,
there is one file conversion program I found that converts many
formats, such as DOC, PDF, RTF and XLS, though I haven't tried myself.
At $349.95, it's pricey, but there a trial version that might help you
see if it can handle VCFs. I'll see if there's more.
It may help to know for what purpose you are doing this file
conversion. Thanks.

Hi techtor, and thanks for the prompt response.
The purpose is to make our BD's more usable. This feature will help
the end user to import the data we offer directly into his Outlook or
handheld device.
If there is a software that does that from Outlook, that's fine, all
that I need to do is import my data into Outlook first, and then the
s/w will take it from there. Otherwise, if there is another s/w that
does that from XL or text files, that would be even better. Thank you.
Note: From my previous Question (about BD distributors) I remember you
mentioned something about a big list of BD producers around the world.
I might be interested in this list in the near future, so Is it still
available? If so, I will post another question for it. How much do you
recommend that price should be?

Hello, Octopia, sorry Ive been away long. I did some looking up
again, and I found that Outlook Express 6 (maybe even 5) has a feature
wherein it can save individual address book entries into a Business
Card (VCF) format. I tried it, and I can save one address book entry
into one VCF. The procedure handles each entry one at a time though,
so its tedious if youre handling many. I assume though that you
might want a program that extracts the address book entries all at
once and saves them into VCF. Is this the feature you want?
About the BD list, I actually corrected Business Directory makers from
different sources, and made a list. I still have it, and I can look
for more. About the price, I wonder if you have seen the Google
Answers Help page about pricing:
http://answers.google.com/answers/help.html#C
If you have seen this, but would like my preference, the same price as
your previous BD question would do. Thank you.

Hi, Techtor! Thanks for the Outlook tip, yes, you are right. I have
also seen this feature in Outlook, but like you said, you have to go
one at a time. My BD's have around 10,000 records, each. So, that's
why I was looking for something more practical/professional. What do
you suggest?
Thanks for the tip with pricing. I will make you the first to know
once the question is posted.

Do you use a PDA (Personal Data Assistant like a Palm) or iPod? I have
found some software that export from Outlook into vCard, but I suspect
that they are PDA-installed programs (or coverters from desktop
Windows to PDA). I have found and tried one free program that can be
used for Windows, but I believe the end result is exported to the iPod
only.
I have also seen some address book converter software for PC Windows
that can change an Outlook Express or such address book into another,
but I couldn't try it to see if it will convert the whole address book
into one vCard file, or will save them into many files (which method
do you prefer?). Some of the programs are not for free (though none as
expensive as the $350 program I once suggested). I tested one free
address book converter but it still does it one at a time.
This is what I've found so far, and I'm not sure if these will fit
your needs yet.

Hi Techtor,
Thanks for your efforts.
For the PDA, I intend to use it for Palm-like devices.
The pricey one is OK and so is any other s/w, as long as it can handle
batch processing.
All the best

Hello, hope you had an enjoyable Christmas!
I'm just being cautious, hope you don't mind. I'll list descriptions
of what I've found so far before posting them as an answer:
- Add-on program for Outlook, not sure if its for the PDA or the
desktop PC. $10 to download. Converts address book entries into vCard.
- Program that converts the Windows Address Book (which Outlook and
Outlook Express use) into a single .VCF file. Likely for PDA, though I
have downloaded the installer onto my Win98 PC. Not sure yet if free
or for pay.
- Free program that converts address book files of various types into
other formats, but it does not do batch processing of many files
- address book conversion program that runs on the PC, but I think it
is meant to export to the iPod
- Various webpages explaining conversion techniques of address books.
I will include the other things I mentioned before.
I wonder if you're game for these as an answer. Thanks.

Hi tehctor
Yeah, everything was just relaxing over here. I hope that you also
have spent an enjoyable time.
Yes, these answers sound ok. All that I need to do is to convert the
other formats into pst/address book formats, and then I will be able
to export them as a batch in VCF. I think thats manageable.
I appreciate you verifying the criteria of the answer before posting
it.
Wish you all the best
.
