Hi cod,
A search for 'Eusopus' gave almost two pages of hits in Google's
search engine. From what I've seen Eusopus is a place in New York
State.

It would appear there is creek named Eusopus.

So who was Sir Henry Clinton? "In 1775, Clinton was promoted to major
general and ordered to service in America suppressing the colonies
rebellion."
---------------------------------------------------
It's also the name of a war. "In 1663, Louis DuBois headed an
expedition against the Minnisink Indians, and was of the colonial
forces against them again in 1670. [Index of Ancestors, Year-Bk. of
Colonial Wars, 1922.] The 1st.-named punitive expedition of June 7,
1663, was known in NY Hist. as the Eusopus War."

Eusopus is also the mane of a variety of apple -- Eusopus Spitzenberg.

"... wounded in the Battle of Bennington on the 16th of Aug. 1777 and
taken to Eusopus jail."
It would appear from this that Eusopus was a community large enough to
play host to a jail.

Here's another confirmation that there is creek called Eusopus. It's a
fishing report from May, 2001, so I'm assuming it's safe to say that
it's still there.
"Number of fish tagged was just one. 19 inch striper. I would say it
was a
tough day on the river. We traveled south to the Esopus flats and did
nothing
there. The were several fish caught around us on chunked herring and
the
Trollers did well also."

Further confirmation of a place name -- "... used were Transported to
Kingston on the North River... Called Eusopus."
