What's the best free email service?

I'm currently using Hotmail. I'm looking for a free web-based email service, that offers more space, is as reliable and has as-good services like junk mail filters (and preferably isn't a prime target for dictionary attacks by spammers). My dream service would have a translation feature like Babelfish and also allow foreign script entry without the Global IME or Win 2000, but that's probably an unobtainable pie-in-the-sky requirement. In your answer, please provide 3-4 URLs to the best such email service you know. One single URL would do if the service is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. A brief explanation would be nice, but not demanded. I'll rate a quick, satisfactory answer *****, otherwise, it'll be unrated. PS: I've been getting a lot of grief lately for being cheap (see Q.126792). Please provide an answer of a quality you'd think reasonable for $2. |

Hi! Thanks for the question. I think the best strategy to answer your question is to look at reviews of free email services. The About.com website has a terrific review. "Top 9 Free Email Services" http://email.about.com/cs/freeemailreviews/tp/free_email.htm This one comes from a UK based website. It has reviews on other free (relatively unknown free email providers). The reviewers are site users. Free Email http://www.ciao.co.uk/categories/1,12,12975,12992.html In case of email translation (it may not fit in your pie in the sky requirement) this free email from Mail2World is a good resource. Mail2World http://www.mail2world.com/ There is also a third party website which could translate the email for you like Wordlingo. Wordlingo http://www.worldlingo.com/products_services/email_translation.html Search terms used: free email reviews translation service I hope these links would help you in your research. Before rating this answer, please ask for a clarification if you have a question or if you would need further information. Thanks for visiting us. rated this answer:![]() Many thanks; I'd been searching for that info repeatedly for quite a while now. Two of your links exceeded my wildest expectations. Your clarification answered two additional questions that had been bugging me for ages. And the turnaround for each round of questions was only 20 mins. Truly spectacular. |

In answer to your first followup question, try: Hikyaku (Free World-Wide Japanese E-Mailer) http://www.hikyaku.com/jpmail/jpmail.html "This is a web based E-mailer able to process Japanese messages on no-Japanese computers, useful for Japanese speaking people who wish to keep a contact with their home base by E-mails outside Japan. Thanks to our technology, you can exchange Japanese mails from any place in the world where an Internet connected computer is available such as at Internet/Cybercafes or hotels." |
