Question ID: 127225
In regard to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America:

Do any Clubs own their own aircraft and give flying lessons to their
members?
Do any Clubs give flying lessons to members with rental aircraft?

I am interested if they are getting flying lessons, and not just
getting sight seeing rides.

I am in Southern California.
However - I am interested in any Boys and Girls clubs in the
United States that offer flying lessons.

The more clubs the better.

In prior clarification, I stated, “the more clubs the better”.

However - Just one Boys and Girls Club would be OK with me.

I would like to communicate with a Boys and Girls Club that has put
together their flight program, legal and workable.

I am currently enrolled at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for a
Master's Degree and spoke with an instructor here. He states that the
Boys and Girls Club does not own aircraft. Here is a list of programs
that the Club does offer:

http://www.bgca.org/programs/default.asp

However, there is a program run by the Rotary Clubs of America called
Young Eagles (which involves students in Middle School) that gives
them early flight experience. My instructor friend and I are currently
involved in this program. It basically selects motivated 6-8th graders
from local Middle Schools here in Daytona Beach and gives those
students a pretty thorough ground school experience, plus actual
flight experience with a certified instructor. This program is run
nationwide. Details about the Young Eagles program can be found.

http://www.youngeagles.com/

Also, he recommended the following FBOs (Fixed Base of Operations)
where you can receive instruction in CA.

Please let me know if you need any clarifications, or any additional
information about the Young Eagles Program.

Hello: sweetblue44 :

Thank you for being interested in the potential Boys and Girls Club,
flight instruction program.

However - as I outlined in my original question:
I am specifically interest in the Boys and Girl Club(s).
And, I believe, they are allowed to own aircraft.

I have had discussions with a local Boys and Girls Club, and they are
thinking about purchasing their own Cessna training aircraft.

We have the funds pledged. And now, all we need is to devise a
workable plan.

The Club’s executive director, and several local police departments,
have shown interest, and we would devise a plan that would be legal
and workable.

It would be great, if we could locate another Boys and Girl Club that
has
developed a working plan.

Our local Club would be interested in their members, and the local
Police Departments would be interested to have a better relationship,
with at risk boys.

I am looking for a Boys and Girls Club that has a flight instruction
program.

I have continued attempting to contact the B&GC for possible flight
instruction. I have asked flight instructors and administrators here
at ERAU, and have been in contact with the Atlanta and Pacific
offices. Both offices cannot locate any information regarding flight
instruction. I regret that I am unable to find any additional
information regarding your request as it pertains to the B&GC. Here
are the numbers for the respective offices, although I made sure to
speak to at least two different people at each office:

Atlanta: (404) 815-570
Pacific: (562) 981-8855

I again regret that I could not have found you a more satisfactory
answer.

I would like to again recommend that you look into the Young Eagles
program, as it sounds closest to what you are looking for. The
Embry-Riddle Young Eagles team has had many successful sessions in the
past, and the pilots, students, and instructors are more than willing
to donate their time and energy into getting the youth interested in
Aviation.

The researcher did not answer the specific question.
The question, very clearly requested the answer to be comprehensive in
regard to The Boys & Girls Club.
The researcher made a first-rate comment, but not a good answer.

Dear Clicker,

This is the first response I received from B&GC of America. I will
post all follow up responses here:

"We're not immediately aware of any flying programs, but we're
checking around our programs department. Many people are out for the
holidays, so it may take a little while to learn more.

Best wishes,
Chelsea Rathburn"

Happy Holidays,

The Young Eagles are not affiliated with the Boys and Girls Clubs of

run a summer camp that includes both classroom and flying experience.

The Civil Air Patrol's Cadet Program offers pilot training to youth
attending the sixth grade or 12 years old up to 21 years of age. This
program is very military in nature.

I sure want to thank everyone who answered the question, and made a
comment.

We are so fortunate to live in the United States, where private flying
is so common.

Keep the comments coming, this dialog is most interesting.

Thanks again, clicker5

Here is what they told me:

You have responded to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana, California.
We have no flight instruction activities as such. However, you can
check the national website at www.bgca.org or call the office in
Atlanta at 404-815-5700 and ask for the marketing dept. Good luck.

Cindy:

I am writing to you in regards to a conversation I had with an
associate concerning the Boys and Girls Club activities. He claims
that the Club owns several small airplanes for use in familiarizing
youngsters and encouraging them to fly. I checked your program page
and saw no such evidence. Could you set me straight on this matter?
I'd appreciate your time. Thanks!
